This post will include a minor Griffin Surge! Be prepared for griffins!

Godric the Griffin! Because, in my head at least, every gold-eyed brown griffin of this size I make will be named Godric. Also possibly some of them will end up with little crimson-and-gold scarves. Because I am a dork.

Seal-point griffin ♥♥♥ In my head it's a girl, and possibly also named Sasha. Because when I was little, my in-town aunt had a female Siamese cat that was named Sasha, and I guess the association stuck.

Anyway, she turned out beautifully, and I am very pleased with her. Thank you to [personal profile] redsixwing for the bird info so I could get her coloring closer to what might hypothetically be correct! I am totes listing her on Etsy within the next few days.

Okay, so I've mentioned a few times that I've been working on a big commission project recently? This is her: a griffin on scale with my European-style dragons. She's a good fourteen inches (~35cm) tall at the tips of her wings. Anyway, I just finished her the other day, and will be sending her out as soon as I get payment from her commissioner (commissionee? What do I call someone who commissions me for work, anyhow?), who graciously said "Yes" when I asked if I could share pictures of her (the griffin).

Oh, and the commissioner gets all the points for suggesting the pink rim around her eyes. I had mixed feelings on it in the concept phase; I mean, it seemed about right for birds, to the best of my limited knowledge, but would it look right on a plush griffin? I'm quite pleased that all my doubts were put soundly to rest: the pink rim helps accentuate the eyes, makes the color pop more and helps distinguish it from the background brown, and makes the eyes themselves seem larger (they're actually the same size I use for the smaller griffins, and I wasn't sure they'd be big enough).

Colbert Report style eagle! I've been threatening to make him for a while now. His feathers were actually less tedious than I anticipated, though his glasses gave me a headache. I still need to tweak him a bit; his left eyebrow needs to be adjusted slightly, so it looks more, er, Colbert-ish, I guess, and less surprised in profile, and I also want to add something to his chest to make it look less like a figure skater's leotard. I'm thinking I'll add a faux shirt and tie (in white and red respectively, of course), though I'm open to suggestions.

Y'all are familiar with Klein bottles, right? Well, for shits and giggles, I decided to crochet one. It has certain advantages over the glass sort, in that it is squishable and thus easier to retrieve things from and also easier to stop up to keep them from getting out, but the glass bottle wins for visibility of concept. I've got my eyes peeled for a glass version (so I can take more demonstrative pictures), though I'll probably have to look in a glassworks or sciencey store, or just outright commission one in the end.

Anyway, the design I've got still needs some significant tweaking, but I'm hoping to make it usable as a dice bag for tabletop gamers. It may only be +1 for carrying things, but it's +5 nerd cred!

Edit: Whaddaya know, I'm not the first to crochet one. Should've figured that, really; I can still probably sell the pattern, though. And I'm totes about functionality with mine. (Related note: Oh gosh, the jewelry! The itty-bitty one! W-want...)
