So, I'm finally watching the Bleach anime. I've been keeping up to date with the manga for quite some time now, but I hadn't gotten around to the anime until recently. Yesterday, in fact. And I've gotten through episode... nine by now. Re-reading and re-watching a series like this makes you really notice the details you didn't understand earlier. Like Rukia's whole flashback thing in book three and stuff. And some of the issues. And Kon.
I think I've gon Kon batty. What can I say? He's a fun character. Actually, it's probably more like I've gone Mod Soul batty.
See, I'm watching episode seven... ish, and Rukia was telling Ichigo about the history of Mod Souls. And she says that the project was canceled because people in SS thought it was inhumane to do that to a corpse, so (supposedly) all of the Mod Souls were destroyed.
First Thoughts: Ignoring, for the moment, my feelings on what it's okay to do with a corpse, how is what they did any more humane than what they were going to do? They aren't going to 'desecrate' dead bodies, so they destroy all this life that they had planned to use for the task? Hypocritical much?
Second Thoughts: I'm not disagreeing with you on that, but think of it this way. For the project to be successful, they'll probably need a relatively fresh corpse. Ignoring how many people are cremated in Japan, how do you think the deceased's family would feel to see the person they thought was dead up and about again? I'm sure SS'd do everything they could to prevent it, but there's always a chance that the person would be seen. Even with their handy memory-altering devices, I'm sure no one wants to deal with that sort of thing.
1st Thts: ...Point. They're still a bunch of lazy bastards for deciding to just get rid of them, though. I'm sure that they could've come up with something.
2nd Thts: Yup.
Spawned a plunny, but decided it used too many OC's and back-shelved it. Maybe someday, probably not.
Later: Now, where was I? Oh, yeah, the massive spoiler part.
Anyway, speaking of fics, here's the other train of thought for that tidbit of information.
1st Thts: Wow. Epic of Gilgamesh much?
2nd Thts: Know whatcha mean. I mean, here's all these 'Gods', destroying what they've created simply because they don't like the idea anymore. Of course, that would make Kon into Gilgamesh himself and Urahara into that one Water/Wisdom god (whose name I can't recall), which is a whole 'nother kettle of fish. And you know that, if Urahara saved Kon on purpose, he had an ulterior motive. Let's face it, the guy is not altruistic.
1st Thts: Yup, yup.
Third Thoughts: You really have to wonder what he would use an extra Mod Soul for.
1st Thts: ...
2nd Thts: ...
1st Thts: ...Well, maybe he thought about using it for the special gigai before Rukia showed up.
2nd Thts: Now there's a fic idea (though I have no idea what a 'regular' Kon would look like). Ow.
2nd Thts: ...Not that we'll get to it now. Not enough time or energy, plus we're already devoted to Communications, etc etc. Heck, not that we'll get to it ever, but it's still a damn interesting idea.
1st Thts: I know.
Ended up pondering uses for a Mod Soul gigai for a while, and the possibilities, but as stated above, I'm lacking the time and energy to make such a commitment.
Anyway, the icon. I looked at all the Mod Soul pills and kept thinking, 'They're all green' and suchlike, and eventually, conclusions were drawn. I cannot be blamed. Not at all.
