The General was fifteen minutes late when he bothered to show up for the meeting. He brushed past the two men guarding the Fire Lord's council room with a casual smirk and settled nonchalantly into his place near the head of the table.
An advisor cleared his throat and rose. "Now that we are all here," he said, shooting the General a pointed glare (which the General ignored), "we can get down to buisness. First of all, farmers in the south are complaining of..."
The General smothered a yawn and tuned the advisor out. The meetings usually went on like this for some time, with various council members addressing problems facing the Fire Nation and its citizens, and various other council members offering possible solutions. The General didn't really care about the price of cabbages world-wide, or what different villages were doing for certain Fire Nation holidays, so he mostly didn't pay attention. Instead, he tended to let his mind drift; this time, it drifted to the past.
The Fire Lord had appointed him six months after the war had ended to help maintain order in a nation undergoing forcible regime change. He had been suggested for his intimate knowledge of the workings of smaller resistance groups. The new Fire Lord, recognizing the wisdom in this, had reluctantly offered him the position. He was now one of the youngest Fire Nation generals ever, as well as one of the few not to be a bender, and served under the second youngest Fire Lord in history.
