Crochet's pretty forgiving, so once you know all the stitches and/or techniques involved, it's pretty reasonable to believe that you can pick up just about any pattern and churn something out. Alternately, I'm one of those annoyingly competent people who gets things right away and makes everyone else sick with jealousy and want to plot her doom.
Actually making the pattern is a bigger pain for me; I don't like to think about how often I end up having to start something over, or undo half of a part, or throw something out. I have an entire extra pair of arms left over from Bubby, for example. (They were too big! >:|)
