It went quicker than I thought, in the end :/ The worst part was when I couldn't entirely tell the difference between a "This is to attach the one part to the other" knot and a "This is the slipknot that helped you start the piece" knot. Thank GPI that crochet > knitting, at least in the missing-one-stitch-won't-make-the-whole-thing-fall-apart way.
