Weather update

Just short of 7pm in Iowa, stuff has Started. My boss and coworker teamed up to make sure I was out before five, because shit was scheduled to kick off at six and this would allow me the time I needed to get home before then, even with a stop to refill my gas tank.

So far I haven't noticed anything in particular where I am, but my brother and his family, who live in a different area of town, have lost power, so Dad took a couple of coolers and some ice over to them. He also took a couple of lights I bought at the Dollar Tree after the derecho last year, which are actually still working; not bad for a couple bucks' investment, I must say!

Will update if needed.

Update: Just after 8pm; tornado sirens are going off. I believe I will take this opportunity to sit away from the window in my room.

Update 2: Just after 10pm; hopefully the worst has passed? I haven't been outside to investigate, but it's so far so good inside. Oh, also, there was a miscommunication; turns out that only the fridge at my brother's house is not working, rather than the power being out in the whole house.

I did hear a really loud bang that I suspect was just a weird thunderclap, but it could also have been lightning hitting something. That said, I'm not going outside to check at 12:20am, especially when everything inside still seems okay!

Thanks! Weather stuff is supposed to be over in about five hours, and I'll be turning out the lights in a bit anyhow, so hopefully that won't be too difficult. *knocks on wood*

It's now the next day... Did you come through okay?

All clear, as far as I can tell! There's a section of gutter in the yard next to ours that I'm pretty sure isn't ours, and the peach tree that's been barely holding on for a good decade or more may have finally given up the ghost, but that seems to be the most of it.

I definitely don't blame you for not heading out to look! I hope everything was all right by light of day.

So far so good! There was a section of rain gutter on the ground between our house and a neighbor's, but I don't think it was ours, and it looks like the peach tree that's been barely holding on for at least a decade may finally be ready to let go (that or start growing all new roots), but otherwise things look okay.

Though condolences for (to?) the peach tree. Though as trees sleep (or do a sleep parallel thing) in winter, I suppose this is a gentler way to than to give up the ghost during the riot of spring.

Bummer about the peach tree! But I'm glad that's the worst of it.
