Listen, I didn't mean to stay up all night on Wednesday and only go to sleep again on Thursday afternoon because I was too busy reading a fic, it just kinda happened!

Honestly, the only thing that's really "better" about this right now is that I don't have many other demands on my attention/major stressors. Mostly.


On a "Brains are weird" note, I have trouble admitting to myself that I'm in a new fandom when I haven't technically consumed any canon material for said fandom yet. But that's where I currently am with Scum Villain's Self Saving System, so. Working on that from both angles with my brain currently, we'll see how it goes.

what are your Abyss fix-it thoughts?

the one I've got so far is, due to slightly different circumstances at the conference, Shen Yuan is distracted from the idea of needing to throw Binghe into the Abyss for long enough for currently unspecified third parties to notice Binghe is a demon and attack. and he doesn't think any more than he did when he got poisoned. and then he's convinced he's dying regardless, so he tries to tell Binghe to take Xiu Ya and run, and somehow this ends with Shen Yuan falling into the Abyss. which naturally Binghe tries to prevent, but the rift closes before he catches Shen Yuan.

(it's a fix-it bc they both survive without being convinced either hates and/or fears the other)

Option one: Shen Yuan tackles Binghe into the Abyss because someone noticed Binghe's demonic awakening, and this was the fastest way that SY could think of to get LBH away from someone who (he assumes) would actually want to kill him. They get through the Abyss together. (I've seen one fic already where they get through the Abyss together, but SY still did the stabbing and accusing, and, well, you know me: Monarch of Angst Mitigation.)

Option two: SY rules lawyers the System about his excuse to Binghe for pushing him into the Abyss. "I just have to get him into the Abyss, it doesn't matter how or what I tell him, right?" So he tells LBH that, because of his heritage, the rest of the sect would assume he'd helped set up the attack; but, because LBH is a Heavenly Demon, he's sure to survive if he goes into the Abyss, so go hide out there and Shizun will work the political angle from his side, so it'll be safe when Binghe gets back (extra emphasis on the "when he gets back" part, so LBH will be certain that SQQ believes he's up to the task and will make it back safely, etc).


Both of these may already exist as written by someone else, and I would be Okay with that.

😂 Well, I started reading the book, so I should hopefully be able to figure out what, if any of that, is contraindicated by canon, which in this case is kinda the first step. We'll see after that.

the animated, meanwhile, technically gets as far as showing Mobei-jun (for like one second at the very end) and the Abyss yeet (a couple seconds in the end credits), but anything else after partway through the Immortal Alliance Conference is material for a later season that has yet to materialize

Oof, I feel that. I am currently blaming fanfic for me being distracted, and at least my new computer setup means I'm more likely to be looking at the books on my phone right before bed.

What's this? A bullshit time paradox plunny with a steel chair??!

We open to the familiar scene of Shen Yuan having transmigrated into Shen Qingqiu. It's still new to him, but he seems less anxious now? Or different anxious somehow? Maybe more precisely, his motivations for helping Luo Binghe seem to have shifted just a tiny bit. He's still doing everything he can to make sure that LBH has a better life now, but there's not really any worry about LBH offing him, just for LBH's safety, etc.

Fast forward to: Immortal Alliance Conference. The Abyss opens, SQQ pushes LBH in... but managed to sneak a whole bunch of supplies into his robes and such, and was also like. Suuuuuuper fucking cryptic over it instead of just being a System-designated asshole. Like, what the fuck is this "Xin Mo" thing and how exactly is LBH supposed to use it to find whoever this "Shen Yuan" character is? And what the hell does he mean about Shizun's birth name, and he'll see him again in [specific amount of time]? (Or something along those lines.)

Fast-forward through the Abyss: LBH finally finds Xin Mo, and decides he has nothing to lose by at least trying to follow SQQ's advice, since he's confident he can kill his way out of wherever he finds himself if worse comes to worst.

Only... what he finds is some kid? Well, not really a kid, probably a few years older than LBH, actually, but overall pretty soft and fragile seeming and wears glasses and also kinda cute and somehow familiar???

That's right: It's pre-transmigration Shen Yuan! The one who will eventually transmigrate into the SQQ from the beginning of the story! Which is how he knows (roughly) how long LBH will take to find Xin Mo and also why he's not worried about LBH killing him. What the two of them now have to worry about is how to get LBH back home properly, with LBH having a secret secondary mission of making Shen Yuan fall for him.

Haven't quite figured out the answer of how he gets back, but possibly there's not enough ambient qi around in SY's home world and Xin Mo needs to be charged up with dual cultivation, which Shen Yuan will need some working up to.
