Simple Truths

I have an announcement to make: I am not a long-distance runner, in any sense of the word. I may occasionally be a long-distance jogger (only when I'm forced to for Gym class, and guess what, I don't have that any more!), and can be a long-distance walker with the best of 'em, but long-distance running? Out of my reach. I discovered this probably around fourth grade in a game of tag, when I realized that I was using Cheetah methods in order to attempt to catch and tag a classmate who moved more like a gazelle - that is, at a slower overall speed, but taking many more quick turns, and thus outmaneouvering me. I wasn't able to put it into words for many years after that, but recognized my style of movement as 'fire' type around the time I started high school. That is, I use up my energy in quick bursts, and then am somewhat dead until I get a little of it back.

This is a bad thing when attempting to catch a stray dog (looked like a pomeranian?) who was determined to stay at least ten feet away from any human trying to get their hands on it. I managed about two blocks at top speed before I gave in, at which point the dog had already crossed the street again and run into someone's yard. I walked back to the car with my throat absolutely raw feeling and reflected on this. I also lost my appetite for dinne, which just goes to show that if I want to lose weight then I really should take up running. Most of the raw feeling has gone away now, it being almost an hour later, but I've still got a bit of a cough to contend with for my trouble, and last I saw the dog remained free and ...possibly jubilant, but almost certainly a little too smug for my peace of mind.

In other news, managed to find book six of Negima! at the library this evening; book seven seems to be out, but as books eight through eleven were all present and accounted for, I decided to take a leap of faith that seven would return within the next two weeks or so on time for me to nab it, and decided to check the lot of 'em out. Thankfully, book six does not appear to have ended in a cliffhanger, so I might decide to read out of sequence. Less thankfully, some unkind soul seems to have taken marker to various parts of volume six, adding neon orange nipples to pretty much all the original character designs in the back, as well as at least one uneccessary black arrow elsewhere in the book. I mean, I know Akamatsu-sensei still has a few habits left over from his days of doing hentai work, but could you at least ruin your own damn books and not the library's? [/rant]

Also, today's romantic-type haiku fic meme is still open and will remain so until I decide otherwise. Which might be at the end of the week, but will more likely be "when I stop getting requests" AKA, tomorrow. In the mean time, I am having far too much fun with them, and everyone is welcome to request more/for the first time/etc. Maybe I should contemplate making this a monthly thing...

Edit: Okay, it's official; I am no longer allowed to breathe through my mouth, and must go straight to my nose. At least, until my throat allows me to do otherwise again. NO MOAR COFFING PLZ KTHX.

Ah, so very cat-like. :D How apropos!

That's why cats sleep so much (both wild and domestic ones). They use all their energy in quick spurts to chase down their prey during the hunt and spend the rest of the time sleeping so they can rebuild their energy.
