Hey Nickelodeon! We want Katara action figures!
Screw it all, I don't care about Strikethrough '07 (or Bold '07 or whatever we're calling it now) anymore. Lemme know what the basic updates are and when it's over, as well as what we're doing when it's over. Right now, I have stuff I can actually do something about.
Re: lack of female characters in Nickelodeon's line of Avatar: The Last Airbender action figures (standard size):
The stats (to the best of my knowledge/estimation):
The following are action figures that have been made now:
Aang (normal)
Aang (spirit world)
Aang (Water Tribe)
Aang (water vortex)
Avatar Roku (normal)
Avatar Roku (spirit world)
Zuko (normal)
Zuko (Blue Spirit)
Zuko (Siege of the North)
Sokka (normal)
Sokka (war paint)
Firebending Soldier
King Bumi
Jet
Admiral Zhao
Reference images: Back of box (air set and water set); Advertisement included in packaging (side one and side two).
Note: there is no web evidence of several of these existing, but no store evidence of SpiritWorld!Roku existing either. I'm going by AvatarToys.com for that one.
The following are recurring characters who have not yet been made into action figures to the best of my knowledge:
Katara
Toph
Suki
Azula
Ty-Lee
Mai
Avatar Kiyoshi
Kiyoshi Warriors
Gran-Gran
Yue
Smellerbee
Longshot
Pakku
Earth King
Dai Li Agent
Long Feng
Iroh
Cabbage Merchant
Foaming Mouth Guy
Going by Nickelodeon's current pattern, the following are likely to be made into action figures:
Aang (Earth Kingdom)
Aang (Fire Nation)
Zuko (on the run)
Zuko (restored)
Sokka (Fire Nation)
Dai Li Agent
Long Feng
Fire Lord
Names in italics are characters with multiple incarnations. Names in bold are female characters.
It shouldn't be too hard to see the point I'm making here.
What can I do about it?
Simple! Write or call Nickelodeon/Mattel and let them know that you want action figures of the female characters from Avatar! Try to be polite and point out that they could potentially make a lot more money by doing this.
For your convenience, I took the trouble of getting the appropriate numbers and addresses from my local library's reference desk and the internet, respectively:
Nickelodeon:
212-258-8000
1515 Broadway 38th Fl
New York, NY 10036
Mattel:
310-252-2000
333 Continental Boulevard
El Segundo, CA 90245-5012
You can contact Customer Service for the Nickelodeon online shop here, though I don't know how relevant it is to the overall state of affairs; they also list a different number.
lyzzle has also tracked down this option on the Nick.com web site. Its effectiveness as a means of communication regarding merchandise is also unknown, as it appears to be focused on the site itself, but it may be worth a try. Thank you, Lyzz!
Three points I suggest covering:
1) I want action figures of the female characters in Avatar
2) There are no action figures of the female characters in Avatar
3) Please make them so I can give you more money
Remember, it's the idea that they can make more money that will get them moving, not insults or swearing, so I invite everyone to spread this information around. THE MORE PEOPLE CONTACT THEM ABOUT WANTING GIRL ACTION FIGURES, THE MORE LIKELY THEY ARE TO MAKE THEM. (I would've been somewhat snarkier in this post, but I think it may be tracked down at some point and would rather avoid lawsuit.)
Edit: Anyone and everyone who reads this (and the previous post) is officially enabled to spread the info around. Link back to this post, copy-paste, whatever! Let the message be heard.
Edit 2: Obviously, I should also look up Mattel's contact info.
Edit 3 [11/18/07]: Mattel's contact info has been found and added to this post.

...Now I want a Cabbage Man action figure. With real "MY CABBAGES!!" action.

A Cabbage Man figure would be completely awesome and would have to come with cabbages and a cart. Foamy would also be awesome, though he's more likely to come packaged with the Kiyoshi Village Aang fangirls than anything else. Also awesome would be a Yue action figure, a Gran-Gran action figure, and a Koizilla!Aang action figure. Just. IMHO.
