Heist dream
Just woke up from a super cool heist dream. I can remember the basics, but I'm not actually sure how developed the rest of it was?
Anyway, here's what I remember:
* The plucky youngster who goes looking to start the heist is a girl who dresses modestly (I remember long sleeves and long skirts, but wouldn't say no to a head covering) who wants to save her village/hometown. There's a thing in the heart of the Eternal City which is ...not necessarily the only thing that will work, but the impossibility of getting it basically makes it the equivalent of "When pigs fly" and she's out to put wings on a pig, by golly, because that's what it's going to take!
* The showman thief; he's always wanted to put on the greatest show the world has ever seen. He's retired in want of a new challenge. Stealing the [something] from the Eternal City might just do the trick.
* Maternal Inigo Montoya; thaaaat's basically how I characterize her? The ...king-ish-person of Eternal City is responsible for the death of someone very important to her and she wants fucking vengeance.
* There should be at least two more characters to balance things out and make things more realistic, but I'm pretty sure they're among the details that weren't filled in.
* Things were going really well! Everything was going great, they were getting everything set up to steal the [thing], they were going to do it - and then something went wrong and everything fell apart. The heist was messed up on the best day for the job, and they had to abandon their plans.
* The team is licking their wounds in a safehouse after shit goes to hell. Our Plucky Youngster is the only one who's still into doing the heist, because she has to save her village, and are the rest of them just going to give up? Finally, Plucky Youngster announces that she's going to do it on her own, since her team apparently isn't interested any more.
* Maternal Inigo Montoya (shoot I need to straight-up call her Mim) is like, you know what, no, Plucky Youngster is right. We're going to do this heist, and we're going to pull it off. Same plan as yesterday, and we're going to make it work. Showman thief is like, You really think that has a chance after yesterday? Mim's like, Not really, but it's the only thing that even has a chance of working, so it's what we're going to do.
* Naturally they go and pull of the heist, because heist story, despite it being practically the worst possible day for it, but also the only day they have left before Arbitrary Deadline. Plucky Youngster takes [thing] back to her hometown where it actually does save the day, Showman Thief either actually retires or finds new purpose in life, Mim goes home satisfied, other heist people do other "We achieved our goal! Hooray!" heist people stuff, Happily Ever After and all that jazz.
* Setting is Post-Apocalyptic, possibly a technology/magic mix? Manapunk? [Thing] that powers Eternal City can potentially make a huge difference in the world but is being hoarded by City King to make Eternal City super opulent and shit. Pooooosibly there's more than one? Or some way to keep powering the city for at least a while when [thing] is gone? That's partly another thing that wasn't fully fleshed out and partly me not wanting to doom a city to save a world.
Anyway, v. enjoyable dream. Recording all the details here in case I ever have the urge to revisit it in a writerly/creator-ish way.
