Social Distancing Log
For April 10th: Mom went to the dog park with Chester. Dad didn't end up going to the grocery store; the one he wanted to go to is run by the Amish, so it was closed for Good Friday. He's planning to go later today instead.
I ended up going to the local grocery store myself. I wore a bandanna I managed to unearth in my room (since I haven't gotten around to making proper masks yet) and a pair of gloves Mom got me for Xmas that I'd never worn previously (I already had a pair of gloves I really like). The grocery store actually had yeast available—in ziplock baggies, likely from their own bulk supply. I got enough to refill my jar, but I'm still planning to switch to a lower-yeast bread recipe.
Speaking of, with my dad's order finally filled yesterday, my mom put in an order of her own for ten more loaves of bread. Looks like I'm not putting away the mixer yet 😜

I have tons myself. I tend to forget other people don't periodically bake bread so don't just have supplies lying around. The shortage took me by surprise. I really am glad you got yours.

Here is a good video for you showing how to make a sourdough starter;

Generally for conversion you can just swap yeast 1:1 if the sourdough flavor isnt your thing and give it more time than usual.
Congrats on the yeast tho!! its very sold out where I am.

That said, Mom and Dad also managed to find a whole pound of the instant yeast I'm most familiar with at the bulk food store they were visiting today, so I think I'm going to be good for some time.

Thanks! It feels good to still get some baking done when I don't have work.
