Crafty time
Last year and the year before, I tried NaNoWriMo. I failed miserably. I failed so miserably last year, in fact, that I firmly instructed myself not to sign up this year, since it would only lead to pain and guilt. Instead, I vowed to crochet something.
Well, we're three days into the month, and I am indeed crocheting. I've finally gotten around to that Tetris blanket I've been talking about, and am going ...reasonable steam ahead.
I've got a couple of commissions to take care of on the side - one for my grandma and two for my across-the-back neighbor, plus Mom's birthday present at the end of the month - and while they technically take priority, I feel I can balance things out at the moment. Still, if it turns out I've bitten off more than I can chew, the blanket's being spat out first. I've got a contingency plan for if things start going bad ("Switch to smaller squares/a smaller pattern"), which I hope I don't have to use but am realistic about needing. I've hurt myself crocheting too much before, and I don't want to do it again.
There's also a couple of other people eyeing the Quire flyer this year, so it looks like it might be more opt-in for me. Frankly, it's a bit of a relief to know I've potentially got one less thing on my plate; I'll probably not be going for it.
Anyone else doing something creative for November? Writing, drawing, crafting, whatever?
Welp, there's another local NaNo meeting for me to play cheerleader at tonight; good thing I can talk and crochet at the same time. I think I'll get a quick nap in before it starts.
Current square count: 36/396 (~9%)
Tonight's goal: 42/396
I can so do this.

I'm still trying to decide whether I should post whole sections of the writing as I finish them, or maybe just the bits I find the most amusing and post the rest up as I get past the self-edit stage, once November is over and I'm allowing myself to edit.
How cool, local NaNo meetings. I wonder if there's something like that here? I can fire up my trusty text editor with other people around, I think.
Your Tetris blanket sounds really neato.

Ooo, previews... Hm. I guess I vote extra funny bits?
Yup; I found out about them by signing up at the official site and registering for my region. The gal who does most of the organization-y stuff is way cool :3b
Neato is right, but it's not going as well as I'd hoped; I'm having trouble meeting my daily minimum, let alone a row a day, my pie-in-the-sky goal. I think I'll probably be switching to smaller squares today, and hopefully that'll do the trick. That should save time, yarn, and my wrists.

How about crocheting a tetris scarf?

Hmm; I'd have to think about how to make that work, but it's a possibility if the blanket doesn't pan out.
