Luckily, there was no rain on this parade
Local high school had its homecoming parade tonight, just up the street from where my parents and I live, so I had the bright idea of inviting the niblings to watch it. I thought the odds were about fifty-fifty that my brother and SIL would be into it, and it turns out they were on board! Mom and Dad picked the kids up from daycare a couple hours before the parade, and my brother and SIL showed up around thirty minutes before it was scheduled to start (starting time being at least another fifteen minutes before I expected any of the parade to get in our range).
Overall, it went pretty well! We got free hotdogs from a near-by church, the kids seemed to have a good time, and the grown-ups also seemed to have a decent time with the kids and in general. It didn't go exactly the way I pictured it, but things involving two kids under five years old seldom do, and probably won't even after they're both in double digits. I may try to remember this for next year as well.
Oh, on a very interesting note, the parade was briefly interrupted by a fire truck going upstream through it. First time I've ever seen that happen.
On a completely different topic, I remain deeply irritated that "geoduck" is not pronounced the way it's spelled.

Our local parades often feature the biggest firetruck as an undecorated float -- I can't imagine the street layout where the working truck traveling upstream would be fastest.
French settler colonialists have a lot to answer for: their transcriptions of various Indigenous words often leave me mystified.
Guess how you pronounce: Chequamegon

I am unsurprised that I guessed wrong, good grief.
