Because I thought it would be fun to share: things my heartmarks turn into

...Okay, not just heartmarks. Also symbols like ¦ or foreign letters like ç. But mostly heartmarks, 'cuz that's what I use most often. Anyway, Yahoo!Mail reads 'em weird, and presents 'em as kanji. Here's some of what I've gotten:

ç:
鏰 and 莽

¦:

Heartmarks:
鈾モ櫏鈾 (three hearts)
鈾モ櫏鈾モ櫏鈾 (five hearts)

鏰:

In conclusion: Yahoo!Mail is weird. But also possibly an interesting reason to look up kanji meanings. Unless they're actually Chinese, in which case I'll have to find a different dictionary.

Edit: Bonus: What other people's heartmarks have turned into:
鈾モ櫏鈾
...Which is really more of the same, but I wanted to include it anyway.

Edit 2: Okay, it's sort-of back to normal now. Kanji (and kana, thank you Pat) are now appearing as follows:
モ
鏰
莽
娄
鈾
櫏
é–º

And heartmarks are now (back to):
♥
Which I'm pretty sure is what they used to be. It was interesting while it lasted...

The majority of those are question marks for me. D: How do I fix it?

Hmm. *pokes her computer* I dunno. :/ I think my computer's just illiterate.

Haha. We need teachers to teach computers. XD

If you have windows, do you have East Asian Languages checked in your Regional settings, in the control panel? (It should be an option on the first page of the menus.)

[identity profile] lyzzle.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
....No I do not! :D *does so* ...Hmm, I don't know where the XP CD is. :(
ext_41718: (hello world)

[identity profile] sleepfighter.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
...hm. There should be a non-CD option...did you try to install any langauge packs, or just enable suport?

[identity profile] lyzzle.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
It said I had to install language packs. *shrugs* I've just found the CD, so I'm gonna try it again.

[identity profile] bard-linn.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
That used to happen to me too. I ended up turning off the language option on firefox for a while. XD

[identity profile] bard-linn.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, though of course when I wanted to look at something with the kangi/what have you I had to turn it back on.

モ is the katakana 'mo'. Don't try to look for that in a kanji dictionary. You won't find it. I guarantee it. As for the rest of it... These are courtesy of http://www.rikai.com

鏰 isn't wanting to be translated, but has components of gols/money, mountain, and moon/month

莽 is grass or grassy field

娄 also isn't wanting to be translated but has woman/female in it (can't recognize the top half)

鈾 not wanting to be translated but also has gold/money

櫏 not wanting to be translated but has tree and a bunch of stuff I can't recognize...

閺 not wanting to be translated but has gate and something

Sorry I can't help any more

From what I can see from here (but correct me if I'm wrong):

娄 is "ai"....Or looks like it, in any case ^__^;;;;

[identity profile] nekokenchan.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Trust me, It's not. 'Ai' has heart in it. That one doesn't

[identity profile] mistressoffoxes.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, right. Sorry for the mistake ^^;
