Hmm
Have I shared pics of my crocheted hippos here? I don't quite thing I have. I know I've shared them in Discord, but that's hardly as permanent a sharing spot as Dreamwidth.
Well, either way, I crocheted another hippo for the first time in months. Finally, after selling almost all of them and gifting almost all of the rest, I am building up my stock again! It helps that someone requested the opportunity to buy a purple hippo from me, so I want to have several examples for her to choose from. "Do you want this purple, this purple, or this one? Light purple, or dark purple? Solid purple, or variegated? Take your pick, I'm sure I'll find homes for the rest!"
That said, I'm also pretty sure I'm going to kick the price up a couple of bucks. Not for the person who requested one, she'll still get the previous price of eight dollars, but I did some better timekeeping this time around and yeah, they take longer than my flying pigs. I'll probably bump the price up to ten dollars a pop, maybe nine. Which isn't too bad, IMO; still within price range for most kids at a convention, or anyone else who might want one. My mom has always had a philosophy that there should be a wide range of prices on art available for sale, especially at art shows (which artist alleys kinda count as), so kids aren't completely priced out of things.
Anyway, stopping here for the night; I'll see about finishing another hippo or two probably on my next day off. Oh, and someone remind me to get hippo pics up! (And I have got dolphin pics posted? I should check for them, as well. I know I've got stingray pics up, though I'm not sure if I have flying pig pics on Dreamwidth...)

As for flying pigs, you can get a glimpse of one of them over here, in the Roggensau Post. I'll share some better pictures of those, as well.

I think that's a really nice philosophy for art shows and such... I remember going to craft fairs and things with my mom as a little kid and there being nothing I could hope to get! But $10 or under seems totally reasonable for something handmade that takes you the time and effort to do. Artists should be paid fairly, but it's rough as a kid/broke student/etc. when you can't afford anything.

I have come to agree with Mom's philosophy wholeheartedly. I definitely also enjoy making bigger, more complex things, but being able to make smaller things that more people can buy more easily is also great. I get to make even more people happy!

Being a kid or a broke student is kind of a bummer, so having something cute you can afford from an artist can be really nice!
