Welp, I just got my Listening assignment back. You know, the one that I kinda phoned in?
I got 100%.
This is important information for me on how hard I need to work on future assignments.
Up next is our informative speech. I'm contemplating topics (to be discussed in class tomorrow evening), and am leaning towards either Apopo or Esperanto. We'll see how my classmates feel about rats.
In Philosophy news, the remaining class periods are going to be dedicated to gearing up for the final exam, and then actually taking the final exam. The teacher has assured us that any classwork in the remaining days will be bonus points, and also that he's dropping the lowest score of the three exams in class, so if we're happy with our grades, we don't have to continue to show up. We're certainly welcome to do so! But not obligated.
I got 100% in both Philosophy exams, and have been participating like heck in class discussions and such. I feel very confident in my grade. As such, I'm planning to skip six thirty minute drives and stay home instead.

You centurion you!
Apopo is so cool.
Skipping the commute makes a lot of sense. I have a squeak of sympathy for your teacher, who will no doubt miss your presence, but it's a lot of driving.
I turned my screen grayscale in aid of spending less time frozen in front of a screen, and I want you to know that your diligent rat (weaving? darning?) reads well even without color.
Re: You centurion you!
If the commute were meaningfully shorter, I'd still go tomorrow and Thursday. If my car's air conditioner were working, or if the weather were less horrendously hot and humid, I'd probably go at least Thursday, and possibly tomorrow. (Monday and Tuesday are just for the final exam, so I'd be skipping them anyway.) Alas, my car can't go into the shop until Thursday afternoon, at which point the classes will be over anyway.
Oh, excellent 😃 It's chewing a strip off of a piece of paper 😂 Very fond of chewing things into tatters, rats are.

I got the impression of a rat opening/gnawing on a box myself, so it's nice to know what it's supposed to be (and it makes considerably more sense, too)!

Oh, absolutely, and it's a suitably ratty way of "working", I'd say!

Nice to hear about your assignment! That's quite reasonable of whoever graded them.
For your speech, did your classmates like rats enough for you to talk about Apopo (not that Esperanto isn't a nice topic)?
Yeah, it sounds like you've done more than enough for Philosophy, so keep that time for yourself! (I would probably go myself, despite a longer commute... but I make a point of always being there, so I'm quite sure I'm an outlier.)

We're going to be briefly discussing our potential topics in class tonight, so if anyone is worse than just "slightly uncomfortable" about rats, I'll probably go with Esperanto. If nobody has a horrible phobia of rats to the point where even discussing them is a no-go, then I'd love the excuse to potentially help them appreciate those critters a bit more 😉
If the commute were shorter, or if there were less of a wait time between Philosophy and Speech, or if my car's air conditioning were working, I still might have gone today. (They're getting into Turing tests and whether GenAI counts as "intelligent" or not, and I have very strong opinions about that. Tomorrow is more about test review, and then Monday is Early Bird Exam Day, and Tuesday is Proper Exam Day.) But driving thirty minutes in a car that's either not air conditioned, or is cooled while making constant, high-volume whirring noises, and then either camping out at school for six hours (and figuring out lunch and dinner while there, especially with the school cafe closing at two o'clock) or driving home and back in the interim... Skipping seemed like the better option for me, especially since it won't affect my grade.

Maybe she's just happy someone handed in something halfway decent? 😛
Ah yes, this is your morning; I thought it was your evening instead. Fingers crossed for you getting to talk about rats!
Yeah, a six-hour pause would be a dealbreaker for me, too; while I can be productive during my commute (I mostly take the train, so that's a possibility), staying at home's better for that. It's just a pity that you'll miss out on a rather interesting disucssion...
