Homework Victory!!!
Dec. 7th, 2025 09:25 pmInterview with a Human Services Professional paper: Completed and turned in last night!
Interview with a living ceramicist paper: Completed a few days ago
Accompanying PowerPoint presentation: Completed today! turned in with the paper
Still to do:
Tweak the game I made for Social Problems, due Tuesday (basically done, then just needs printing)
Write the accompanying paper, due Tuesday (there's a template that's basically a walkthrough, I'm not too worried)
Personal Mission Statement for Intro to Human Services, due 2pm on Friday (not started, but I have the most time left for this)

Interview with a Human Services professional: Done
Reflection paper on interview, due Friday, Dec 5:Not started
Personal mission statement, due Friday, Dec 12: Not started
Social Problems:
Research a particular topic as a social problem: Done
Do a creative project based on your research: Mostly done, needs touch-ups
Write a paper about your research topic and your creative project: Not started (has a very detailed template I can probably just fill out as the paper)
Ceramics:
Interview with a living ceramicist: Done
Reflection paper on interview, due Sunday, Dec 7:Mostly done Done!
PowerPoint Presentation on interviewed ceramicist, due Sunday, Dec 7: Not started
I'm going to try and get the one interview reflection done tonight, and then take a break. (I'd aim for both, but they're both minimum two pages, and I'm not sure I have enough juice for that.) I want to go ahead and make the Paid Time for Mood Themes announcement on
moodthemeinayear, but alas, I must use my brain power for this, instead 😩
Edit: First reflection paper is done! Time to dig out my notes from the other interview and contemplate at least starting the second one.
Edit 2: Intro to HS reflection paper started, basics of getting paid time for mood theme completion posted to

Uh, school continues apace; I'm still a little freaked out by my final projects, but whatever, I'll make it work.
Worked the wood kiln on Thursday; I had a shift that was fairly early on in the process, so there wasn't actually a lot for me to do! My wrist is still a little sore from splitting some wood, though.
I made myself a new icon, though I'm putting off uploading it, because I think it'll be the perfect opportunity to make an icon-uploading tutorial 😂
I've got some new SVSSS thoughts I should probably copy over at some point, but I also don't have quite enough time for that, as it is nearing Bed Time Routine O'Clock.
So yeah! That's me for now. More hopefully soon.

Nov. 6th, 2025 07:58 pmFinal Project Hell has begun at school 😭 Or, well technically I still have one class with the final project unassigned as yet? But still!
For Social Problems, I need to do a creative project on, well, a social problem, and write an accompanying paper. And there's some regular homework in addition to that.
For Ceramics, I need to interview a living ceramicist and do a creative project on them. The interview has to be done vocally (in person, over the phone, or via video call). Plus our final unit project, the slab houses.
Intro to Human Services hasn't been assigned yet, but guess what, it's another interview! This time with a Human Services professional. Looks like it has the same "interview has to be done vocally" restrictions as the Ceramics interview. Separate from that is a final paper, "Developing Your Personal Mission Statement as a Human Services Professional".
I need to go to the Learning Commons or something and get all of this bullshit untangled, because my ADHD brain has gone into Panic Mode.

More Ceramics
Oct. 31st, 2025 09:40 pmI successfully finished all my required objects for my wheel project in Ceramics! (A total of eleven objects, for various reasons, one of them being that we had to make duplicates of everything to manually destroy to simulate losing half of our work in the kiln. (I made a triplicate of one item.))
Anyway, with that done, we're on to our final project for the semester: Slab Houses.
In theory, I love this project. The teacher showed us some examples from previous years, and it has so much potential to be fun and quirky! The assignment is to make a home that tells a story about who or whatever lives in it. We also need two "roof angles" (not two sides of the same roof, as in an upside-down "v", but another roof thing in addition to that).
Unfortunately, the last constraint is killing me: There need to be a minimum of two slabs of 11" x 8.5". Holes can be cut into them, and structures built onto them, but they must otherwise retain those dimensions, because this project is ultimately about building slabs. Oh, and it also can't be more than like, 18" in diameter in any direction.
Idea sketches were due on Wednesday. I had five ideas for slab structures, and ended up finalizing one of the two I was least enthusiastic about because it's easy for the design to follow the "two piece-of-paper-sized slabs" rule.
We had to make models of our idea for a skill builder, due by 4:30pm today, and mine is. Not great. We're allowed to skip a lot of the final embellishments, and mine is still not great. Chiefly because it has a flat roof, and I didn't think through why that was a horrible idea. But it was also literally the only idea that would really work without being too big.
I've since come up with a couple of other ideas out of desperation, but I don't know if I'll be able to switch to one of them at this point. Still, it's gotta be better than my current attempt 😩

School again, plus...?
Oct. 24th, 2025 10:13 pmH'okay. Grades from our first Current Event Journal for Social Problems are finally in.
...I got 100%.
I'm more confident about my second CEJ than I was about my first, even with overhearing the teacher say she was planning to grade the first very liberally. Like the Asynchronous Class Notes assignments for the first third of the semester, we are assigned three of these, of which the lowest scored will ultimately be dropped from our grade.
Methinks I might indulge myself and take a zero on the final one.
After stopping by the ceramics lab this afternoon, I finished my pieces for the throwing assignment! I've got doubles of each piece, as assigned, which is more than rather a lot of my classmates can say 😓 Apparently, including the wheel in Ceramics 1 is specifically a community college thing in this state, while other institutes will have coil-and-pinch and slab stuff in Ceramics 1 and save throwing for Ceramics 2. With all the trouble my classmates are having, I can understand that! In any case, I'm glad I managed to finish my stuff. Pics soon, I hope!
Finally, I made a new mood theme! No pics as yet, as I am being lazy about it, but I'm submitting it for consideration as another official mood theme, so hopefully everyone will get to see it soon anyway 😉 I must confess that I stole an idea from someone's planning at the beginning of last year and made cloud moods. Still, I did my best to follow the official mood theme preferences to a T this time around, which meant a maximum of 30x30 pixels in size, which is tiny. I expect that someone who wanted to work with the full 100x100 pixel space, or even 50x50 pixels, would have a better time of it!
I may see about getting a basic screencap of the moods up at some point, but I'm not sure I'll be uploading all of them individually this time 😅

Homework Woes
Oct. 18th, 2025 12:24 pmBlaaaaargh, I really, really do not like these "Current Event Journal" assignments for my Social Problems class!
( Assignment instructions under a cut )
I just. That's a badly written assignment, right? We haven't actually gone over how to critique the articles in class, like how to find things to critique, and it sounds like opinion articles would be best suited for this? But the assignment doesn't specify opinion articles, it just says that it has to be about a sociological problem.
I went with the radioactive shrimp for my first Current Event Journal project, and I'm going with the Trump administration's layoff of a lot of the special education workers in the Department of Education for this one, but like. How to critique that. Do I need to be looking for less accurate reporting? How do I communicate how I found out that the information was inaccurate? We haven't even gotten the first one back, so I can't refer to any feedback for more information!
Anyway, it's a headache.

I guess I'll talk about school some more?
Oct. 15th, 2025 10:59 pmOkay, update time. Hmmm...
School continues apace! We're at the half-way point in the term, and so far my grades are looking good in Intro to Human Services and Social Problems. I'm optimistic about my grade in Ceramics, but I don't expect to have a good idea about it until next week; we're doing a critique of our first major project on Monday (already rescheduled twice, blergh), and I expect we'll get our grades on that after.
I've got at least a paragraph for each of my classes, but they get pretty long, so I'm cutting them individually.

More school stuff
Sep. 16th, 2025 11:35 pmBig project for Intro to Human Services: History project (5 to 7 minute presentation, needs visual aid(s)); can work in groups of up to three. I'm working solo, and my project is on the history of the ADA. It's due Monday the 22nd, aaaaand I haven't really done a lot yet 😑 On the plus side, no homework next week?
No big project for Social Problems! I just gotta read another textbook chapter, originally by Thursday but now possibly not until Tuesday. (I may try for Thursday anyway.) No Asynchronous Course Materials this week, because last week's was two-and-a-half hours long.
Big project for Ceramics: Two coil-and-pinch projects due for bisque (initial, pre-glaze) firing by end of day Friday. I've got one finished, and have only barely started the second. To be fair, I tried starting the second twice already, and had to scrap it both times, because I just kept pinching the bowl larger when I was trying to smooth the coils together. And then yesterday, though I finished cleaning up my fish (that I love and can't wait to share), we did some practice of taking stuff out of the kiln, and that ate up some class time I would have otherwise used to work on my bowl.
Our next class period, tomorrow, will be dedicated to Raku firing our test pieces, so I doubt I'll have a lot of time to work then, and will have to leave class ASAP to get to an appointment back home. So I anticipate staying late on Thursday and coming in on Friday, neither of which is an official Ceramics day, to finish my bowl.
I probably should not have slacked off quite as much as I did over the weekend, but slacking off felt so gooooood 😭 Ah, well; back to work!

School News
Sep. 11th, 2025 11:02 pmSo I got a postcard today informing me that I made the Dean's List?
Someone explain how proud I should be of this. It's a community college, and I only took two classes this summer, but that's also after having taken no classes for eleven years and with ADHD, so.
Like, I'm on board with being pleasantly chuffed, but is this a "Go out to dinner at a reasonably fancy restaurant to celebrate" kind of situation, a "Brag to all my friends and relatives" situation, or what?
(My parents are very proud, and insisted I put the postcard on the fridge. My mom also confided in me that she never made the Dean's List when she was in school, even once. And she did go to a junior college, but she also went to an actual university, so. Data point not entirely helpful.)

Fuuuuuuuck
Sep. 9th, 2025 07:37 pmWeek one for Social Problems class:
- Read one chapter of your textbook
- Write an essay on a half-hour documentary
Week two for Social Problems class:
- Read one chapter of your textbook
- Write an essay on a half-hour documentary
This week for Social Problems class:
- Read two chapters of your textbook, one for Tuesday and one for Thursday
- Write an essay on a two(-and-a-half?) hour documentary
Next week for Social Problems class:
- Read two chapters of your textbook, also one for Tuesday and one for Thursday
- At least there's no documentary to write an essay on!
- Oh wait, you get to study for an exam taking place on the first day of Week 5 instead
- Welp! Good luck with that!
I'll tell you what a social problem is, I'm going to be a social problem if I have to keep this up 🤬
Okay. Okay, I can do this. I'm very glad I checked the class schedule today, because that means I can get a solid handle on my energy needs and get started on that reading ASAP. I can manage this. (If I didn't like these teachers I would be so fucked.)
Edit: Just emailed my Intro to Human Services teacher (not this class, but also more homework-heavy than I'd like) to say that I'm borderline struggling and also help please. She's been pretty vocal about wanting to help us if she can, so. Fingers crossed!

Feedback time
Jul. 27th, 2025 11:41 pmJust got my feedback for my Persuasive Speech!
Technically, I only had to hand in the outline, but since I wrote the speech to the outline template, it was effectively the same thing.
Anyway, here's the professor's feedback:
Yeah. Just kinda laugh-crying over "Excellent job following the template" 😂 Boy I sure hope it was, after how long I spent agonizing on it!
Anyway, I got 100% on the speech, and an additional 16/20 points of extra credit for presenting it. I could probably blow off the final quiz and assignment and still get at least a B in this class. I'm not going to, on account of being certain that it would tempt me into blowing off more and more assignments over the next semester, but it's good to be secure in my final grade.

Switched speech topic from "Why You Should Switch to Firefox" over to "Why You Should Learn Esperanto", because the former was giving me a headache to try and write. Esperanto speech is going much more smoothly! I still need to write the conclusion, but that's just one paragraph, and I've already got all of my sources listed and embedded as well.
...I should make an Esperanto Dreamsheep. And pick Esperanto back up in general. I remembered what I know better than I was expecting, but I really do want to know this language well.
Edit: Speech is (tentatively) complete! I just want to extract it from the template and give it a good look over for flow and so forth, and then it should be good to go. Thank goodness.

Bits and bobs
Jul. 19th, 2025 09:09 pmIt's posting o'clock! Let's see, what to talk about...
I finally finished all the SVSSS short stories! All I can really say is, Cucumber's poor butt; I genuinely hope BingQiu figure things out soon off-camera...
First Sot69 fic didn't get quite the reception I'd hoped, but whatever; I'll just have to reset my expectations for the next one, which I've already begun outlining
It's time for the final speech in Speech class! Except, surprise, as long as we've given the other two speeches, we don't have to give this one! Which is slightly annoying, because that was how I was going to narrow down my possible speech topics; I'm pretty sure I'm instead going to have to go by "What do I have the most authority on," because the 'establish why people should listen to you about this' is the part of the speech templates I've had the most difficulty with so far
Oh, that's right; I guess I have one more thing to post about today...
Oh, that's right; I guess I have one more thing to post about today...
1) Intro to Sociology was successfully dropped, not long after I got home from taking the first class. That setup (the extremely packed schedule plus a super strict teacher) was not for me.
2) I've had some mild financial bullshit with college, but hopefully it's well on its way to being all sorted out.
3) All of my Speech homework for this week? I accidentally did last week 😂 Honestly, much better than the other way around.
4) In less college related news, I finally got my car back from the shop 😭 It took more than a week to get my internal fans fixed, but I am not dealing with summer around here without AC. Especially for thirty minute drives and little to no shade parking.
5) I finally finished properly outlining my first story for Sot69 this year 👀 I am pleased with what I've come up with and how I'm getting the characters into position! I'm really looking forward to actually writing it now 😃

Argh? Argh.
Jul. 7th, 2025 10:58 pmFirst Intro to Sociology class was today!
The professor is an out nonbinary person and very assertive about it. And very assertive about a lot of things. Like no screens in the classroom, yes this includes laptops, but also don't turn in anything handwritten, that will get an automatic zero. Also, remember that deep breathing exercise we did to start class? Now you know that you are always in control! Even if you have some sort of anxiety thing, you are still in control, because you can control your breathing! Also they have a pet peeve about loud yawning, this means you, random student who just yawned. Also also they don't do the compliment sandwich method of feedback because it takes too much time.
...Yeah. I promptly dropped the class, with plenty of time for a full refund, because I really, really don't think this teaching style would mesh well with my ADHD. And that's not even getting into the extremely punishing course schedule.
Sadly, they are also the only professor who teaches LTBTQ+ Studies, which I am currently registered for in the fall semester; I plan to meet with my academic advisor ASAP and switch that class to something else, because no, thank you, actually? No, thank you.

School stuff
Jun. 24th, 2025 02:23 pmWelp, I just got my Listening assignment back. You know, the one that I kinda phoned in?
I got 100%.
This is important information for me on how hard I need to work on future assignments.
Up next is our informative speech. I'm contemplating topics (to be discussed in class tomorrow evening), and am leaning towards either Apopo or Esperanto. We'll see how my classmates feel about rats.
In Philosophy news, the remaining class periods are going to be dedicated to gearing up for the final exam, and then actually taking the final exam. The teacher has assured us that any classwork in the remaining days will be bonus points, and also that he's dropping the lowest score of the three exams in class, so if we're happy with our grades, we don't have to continue to show up. We're certainly welcome to do so! But not obligated.
I got 100% in both Philosophy exams, and have been participating like heck in class discussions and such. I feel very confident in my grade. As such, I'm planning to skip six thirty minute drives and stay home instead.
