Lava Stingrays!
Guess who just remembered these exist? 😂 That's right, it's me! Anyway, I finally got the photos uploaded here, even if I have no idea where the originals got to. (The original images, that is; all of the rays in these photos were bought at either AnimeIowa or ICON.)

I totally fell in love with this yarn when I found it at Michael's some years ago. It's got a fuzzy black exterior, with a metallic red thread underneath, and white at the very middle; the overall impression is like a hot coal, or cooling lava. I have more than a bit of it stockpiled, which is just as well, since I don't know if it's even still available at Michael's! I haven't thought about it in years...
Someday I still want to make a phoenix with this yarn, and maybe a dragon. I still love these rays in the mean time!
I'm going back and forth over whether I want to move the flame at the end of their tails to the middle of their tails instead, the next time I make them; it feels more accurate for the flame to be at the tip, but, as I learned only after making the first batch, the stinger on real stingrays' tails is actually closer to the middle! Maybe I could make a trail of flame from the middle of the tail to the tip; something to contemplate, at any rate...

(I like the flame at the end, even though it's not anatomically correct, but it makes them look like they have a little candle as a tail, and it's cute.)
