Griping about upload/download speeds and original art

...Why is it that files of similar nature and size can take forty minutes to upload and then two hours to download? 'Cuz I'm kinda used to it going the other way around. I also kinda have a headache, but that's not important ¦D

Anyway, meant to post some of this yesterday, and then talk too much about it, but I was low on time, woez. It's a number of character sketches for this manga that I want to draw/write sometime soon-ish. Lyzz has already heard a little about it, as I ganked a name from her ♥

Still thinking of a name for the series, and debating a number of them for the band, and at least a few of the characters, but. You get to see some sketches of 'em anyway :D

I didn't do much of any cleaning with these, mostly because I was lazy. That said, meet (what I have so far of) the cast!

Here we have our main character, Simon, who has been named after her grandfather (I think) for some reason, and Nathalie, who is going by Nathan in the all-boy's boarding school they attend. Here is a picture where you can see more clearly that Simon is female. I had one for Nathan, too, but I seem to have misplaced the notecard it was on - along with the notecard of Simon and Nat leaning back-to-back and Nat kinda strumming a badly-drawn guitar that I was thinking of making a cover for part of this eventually.
Simon is about 5'7" and interested in science. Can maybe play the recorder a little; can't sing better than the average person who never took lessons.
Nat is about 5'11" and the cutely-dorky type. Vocalist, lead guitarist; prefers acoustic to practice on 95% of the time.

This is Chase. She has a real name, but either I haven't quite decided it yet, or it also is lost with the notecards (quite likely).
Chase is about 5'8.5" and the enthusiastic type. She has a chip on her shoulder about being mistaken for a boy when she was 'herself' all the time, and so is rather pleased when people tell her she looks or acts girly when dressing as a boy. Plays bass guitar, backup vocals.

This is Jeanne-Claudia, but she goes by JC. She appears to be the 'cool, aloof' type, but is actually pretty elegant/classy when you get to know her. She does have a sense of humor, though it's hard to make her laugh outright. Her father is French-Canadian, and her mother is Asian (I have to pick which country still). She doesn't get along too well with her father, actually, and doesn't particularly like to talk about home.
JC is about 5'5", maybe 5'6"; is an accomplished musician on many instruments (piano, violin, guitar, etc), but is focusing on drums at the moment; is also a backup singer.

This is Simon's roomate, for at least the first year, if not longer. He's also her first friend at the academy. He's into theater, and is the helpful type. He sometimes gets some help from Simon with science classes, and would probably be accepting/help her out if he finds out she's a girl (which he probably will). ...I still don't have a name for him yet. And yes, he is an actual boy.
Roomie guy: Haven't decided things like height for him, but probably not too much taller than Simon. Maybe 5'9"-ish? Does well with public speaking stuff. Can probably sing, but most likely can't play instruments too well unless he has to learn for a role.

Haven't decided any love interests yet for anyone aside from the main character(s), and that includes "if there will be any". Only have a few plot-related thoughts at the moment as well. Still thinking about a lot of stuff, and for a certain amount of it, I'm willing to just let it develope with the story.

Also still thinking about academy names. I should probably pick a really obscure saint of some sort. The school itself will probably be in Minesota, maybe the northern part? At least mid-way into the state. Haven't quite decided all the details there, either. Still also have to think a lot about family stuff.

I probably won't be getting to this particular story for a while, seeing as I'm currently distracted by trying to write a oneshot about a really gorgeous girl who doesn't read the end of romance novels and turns down dates and burns love letters because she really likes unrequited love - and also her best friend, who ends up picking up all of her books and reading the end to find out and getting a major crush on the first girl and what she does about it. Though I will probably get to it before I get to That One Manga I Want To Do Eventually. No clue where it falls priority-wise with Yo! Kaitou! or Yo Tengo Dolores. And I guess that's all I can think of about it for now? Feel free to ask for more details, though.

Anyway, I'm interested in hearing thoughts, I guess? Or not, either way is cool.

So, the girls in this all-boys' school are all pretending to be boys. I'd love to hear more background about why they are doing this and how it comes about (I assume you're planning to do that as the manga unfolds). I like your drawings a lot. You're a good artist.

*icon love*

What a great idea. I would love to read it. Not sure if you're going to post it on the web first and then try to get it published...either way, let me know where I can read it once it's done :D

*cackles* Yay for a different angle on the 'one' girl in a guy's school bit. Also, they all look adorable. ^^

*giggles8 Oh yes. *snuggles on them* It's made of adorables.

The very best kind. ♥

*giggles* Ooohhhh dear. XD You meanie, you. XD

[identity profile] websofseaweed.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, those look great *__* I agree with the great different angle on those typical crossdressing stories. I look forward to seeing it!!

Omg, you ganked two names from me. :DDD I'm still loving the name Jeanne-Claudia. XD

They're all adorable. :3 (JC and Chase are my favorites~)

As for ideas, I think it would be hilarious if one of the guys at the school fell for one of the girls, not knowing she was a girl, and freaked out about it, a la Hana-Kimi. But since it is so simlar to H-K, I can understand if you didn't want to do that.
Alternatively! A gay guy falls for one of the girls, finds out she's a girl, then freaks out and... converts, maybe?

But don't listen to me, I've still got jetlag. XD;;

^__^ ♥♥♥~

Lesbians are fun. :D

I have recovered and am still enjoying the gay guy idea, so either that's a good sign or a bad one (regarding my mental health), I'm not sure. XD Is it bad that when I think of "gay guy" and "theater club" in the same sentence, my mind automatically goes to Himejima?

I like evil plans! :Db

[identity profile] lyzzle.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm. That's an interesting twist. :D I think it would be best if it were a reluctant merge (on the part of the all-girls school), because when I think "all-girls school", I now think of St. Lobelia's, and I know those girls would NOT be happy about the situation. XD I don't know if you've thought of a reason for it, but perhaps the cause could be some sort of budgeting problem for one of the schools?

D: Did they really break up? I never got around to reading the post....

Yaaaay evil! :D (Awwww. :DDD That sounds like fun~ Huzzah for wacky hijinks!
But you'd better think of love interests for them soon, or I may start subconsciously shipping JC and Chase. Not because they both have names I thought of, or anything, though. Mostly.)

[identity profile] lyzzle.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure that's how it is (Lobelia's being the exception, that is), it's just that it's the most prominent in my mind. XD But, if I recall, there's a manga out called Happy Hustle High where something similar happens (boys' school merging with girls' school) and a lot of the girls were reluctant, but I'm not sure about that.

Awwww. ;_;

Yessss, yessss.... (It's always more fun when at least one character HATES you. XD)

[identity profile] lyzzle.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
This is true! XD

Why? What happened when you went journal-diving?

(Reactions are always a plus!~)

Hmm... Short, simple, to the point! I like it. :D

[identity profile] lyzzle.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
(I'll just mentally add the end on here from your other comment. XD) Naturally. XD

Hmmm. I will help you think! ....But right now I got nothing. D:
