soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (Default)
So today I got my own copy of The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. Yummy book. Quite yummy book. Had read it before, but didn't have my own copy. Now I do. Happy, happy Pratchett fangirl ^_^ <3.

Between this, The Wee Free Men, and A Hat Full of Sky (which my amazing, wonderful, lovable little brother brought back to me from his short vacation in Texas *hearts her brother*) I'm pretty sure I have all the Pratchett Young Adult stuff.

I think I like his YA stuff better than his regular stuff. I don't quite know why. Maybe it's because I like stories about kids. Maybe it's because I still _am_ a kid. Maybe it's because all the dangers seem so much bigger in these books than in his others, even though the other dangers might have worse ultimate results. It's just the feel of them, I guess, how everything sort of surrounds the characters so we don't really have to back up and see the big picture. I mean, the big picture is nice, but I would really rather get caught up in the smaller things. How much simple beauty is there in a flower, simply because it's alive and growing and we don't know quite how it gets there? Likewise, how much beauty is there in a weed?

(Incidentally, The Wee Free Men let me see a few things that I hadn't before, and had influence on 'chapter' four of Communications. Those who have read the book may end up seeing a bit of Tiffany in Aoko ^^;)

Anyway, I felt like waxing whatever it was I waxed there (poetic? philosophical? desperate librarian?) so the book(s) gave me the perfect excuse. Now stop reading this and go out and buy them or check them out from the library or borrow a copy from a friend (I still need my copy of The Wee Free Men back from a friend of mine >_<... I lent it to him over the Europe trip, and I still haven't gotten it back... It's been months! I want my Tiffany back! (I know she's in HFoS, but it's not the _same_) I want my Wentworth! I want my traveling teachers! And I especially want the battle with the Quin and the frying pan. Definately.). Just... Read the books. And if you regret it, you can take it out on me.
