soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (Fairy Godmother)
I've got a lovely bunch of bandages~♪
There they are a sitting in a roll~♪

...And then I don't know enough of the rest to continue this parody, but the point remains valid. The point being this:

Yesterday, Dad came home from his stint in the country with a number of things from... somewhere. Probably Central Discount (a scratch-and-dent store in those parts). Included among the junk was a roll of white, read it, white bandages. The bandages are about 1.5" wide, and it's about 3" of cloth until you get to the ring in the center (which is about 1.25" across). Which is quite a find, IMHO, as I've been under the assumption that most bandages anyone can get their hands on these days are likely to be more "peach" colored. And it means that I can do so much more cosplay-wise without having to actually make white bandages myself ♥ (Translation: Hooray! Making Katara's underclothes just became that much easier!)

Speaking of costume making, my timeframe finally hit me, so I went out to buy cloth (and other stuff) today. I bought a pair of dark blue baggy pants, a pair of cloth shoes about the same color, and a pair of grey socks at K-Mart. At Jo-Ann's Fabric, I bought half a yard of fuzzy white felt stuff (cheaper than fake fur, and looked better than what else they had available, besides), half a yard of dark blue cloth, and three yards of more medium blue cloth. Oh, and some thread and a roll of ribbon (ribon? I am spelling-confused by Japanese magazines x_X). I'll hopefully be able to have something of a Katara costume made by Tuesday.

Also spent about an hour and a half making the hair doo-hickeys and the necklace pendant/coin thing last night. Just 'cuz I'm proud of 'em, I'm putting up a picture of them here )

The bobby pins are for the little round bits that hold Katara's hair-loopys in place in her bun; the clip-thing is to hold the bun in place (the wires are to disguise it better, and to attach more bobby pins to). The remaining bits are for the little cylyndrical things at the top of Katara's hair-loopys, and stay in place remarkably well. Long story short, it's not exactly as her various hair-mabobs were designed (see Tales of Ba Sing Se for more details, at least on the dots), but they work, and they'll look about right, which I think is just as important. They were made of Sculpy, and didn't take too long to bake, either. Anyway, the hair was half the battle, and I should be able to scrape together the rest of the costume with the stuff I picked up sometime soon. Hopefully. 'Specially since I've got kimonos to work off of for patterns and stuff. *crosses her fingers*

Should I succeed, there will be pictures. And even if I don't, I'll probably try and put something up of my hair in Katara-style at least.

Anyone else figured out what they're doing for Hallowe'en? Or even actually dressing up? I am such a dork for my age.
