-Actual- Frivolous Post
Jan. 15th, 2010 09:40 pmSince my previous post ended up not being quite so frivolous as I had first imagined (w-whoops), I'm going to try again!
1) Awesome webcomic alert! Riot Nrrd, a genuinely funny, genuinely progressive webcomic :Db Only four strips so far, no idea where it'll go, but what it has is well worth the paltry amount of time it will take to read. Includes such winning lines as, "GODDAMMIT, JOSS WHEDON, YOU ARE THE WORST PUPPY EVER!" The links section is pretty cool, too :)
2) Saw a flock of wild turkeys yesterday! Seriously, there were like. Eighteen to twenty of them, struttin' pretty as you please on some snow-covered hill on my bus route. Way cool to see.
3) Can anyone think of a SpecFic* private eye story where the main character doesn't inevitably fall into self-pity and willful bad decision making? Because I find those sorts of things quite difficult to read. Lack of vampires is a definite plus. (Parody vampires are acceptable.)
* Speculative Fiction. Unless there's a better short name for it? SpeFi, maybe? It would be totally "Spiffy"! Okay, I kid, I kid ^^a
4) Got a pretty high quality 20" widescreen flat screen LCD monitor for, like, 60% of the usual rate. (I was aiming to get a 19" one, but they turned out not to have any, so they gave me an extra inch without raising the price. Score! \o/) It is now my reward for myself for when I finish cleaning up my room.
5) Feeling somewhat guilty about spending money on 4 but not yet having made a donation to Haitian relief efforts. I'm planning to offer some custom-ish amigurumi in
help_haiti sometime tomorrow in order to feel better about myself. (Having been raised Catholic, I can guilt myself like a champion.) I'm also pretty sure I'll enjoy doing it, since I like making amigurumi so much. (NOTE: This by no means is a suggestion that you should feel bad about contributing/not contributing to the Haiti relief effort. As mentioned, I have my own guilt issues, and I wish none of them on you.)
Interestingly, I feel more positive about making something for charity than just donating money to one directly. I wonder what this says about me.
