Sometime between today and the last time I ate a piece of Yummy's cakes, I seem to have convinced myself that I was exaggerating when I decided they were the best damn cakes I'd ever tasted. Yes, they definitely tasted good after the first bite - but the best ever? Surely that couldn't be right.
Having just eaten my first piece of Yummy's cake in far too long, I can clearly say that no, it was not an exaggeration; their cake really is that good, and I was a fool to doubt myself even for a second.
This cake? These cakes? Not only does the first bite taste like the maker(s) decided to manifest pure bliss and pass it off as pastry, the second bite does, too. I've eaten cake before where the first bite is pretty damn delicious, but then it seems like I'm used to it by the second bite, and it's not really "all that" after all. But Yummy's cakes? They keep tasting like that first bite of dreams-come-true all the way to the end, when I am compelled to lick crumbs and icing (frosting?) up from whatever mundane receptacle once purveyed the real thing. I find myself once again vowing to arrange for this cake the next time a Special Occasion of mine demands it - and then wondering which occasion might be special enough to warrant this cake.
Perhaps if I ever win some prestigious award for my own merits. Or perhaps just the next time I see it at Fareway ;)
