Embarrassing spectacle(s)
Mar. 23rd, 2011 06:18 pmSo yesterday my glasses broke! I cannot say it was entirely unexpected, since they'd started, er, hinging at the nose about a week ago, but I had hoped they'd at least stay in one piece until I could get to the glasses shop with them.
Yeah, no such luck. They were in two pieces by nine in the morning. I still managed to make a pretty good day of it.
Then we got to the glasses store to see what they could do. The answer is: nothing, basically! They broke in too weird a place for them to do much of anything about it. The only suggestion was superglue, which I'd already tried.
The company that made the frames had also stopped making that model some time ago, so we couldn't just order a new copy. And since one of the lenses is chipped at the edge, they couldn't put them in a close-but-not-exactly-right frame, since they'd fall out. Or at least the one would, repeatedly. And we couldn't even order new frames that day, because my prescription is apparently out of date, so I need a new one first.
The earliest available of which is next week. After which, it'll probably take another few days to a week for my new glasses to become available, and that's if I order them that day.
Another problem is that I can't find my backup pair. My working hypothesis is that they were lost sometime during or after my move into the apartment.
All of this lead to the unfortunate discovery that, apparently, I very much identify "being awake" with "wearing glasses". And that not having glasses to put on made it very difficult to actually get up today. "What? Awake now? *reach for glasses* Oh right, no glasses. Oh well, sleep time again! Zzzzzzzzz..."
Anyway, my glasses are now finally one piece again, through the use of that miraculous product: hot glue! Hopefully this will hold at least until my eye appointment, and if I'm really lucky, until I get my new pair.
In crochet news: I'm about one-third to half-way done with England. I still need to make his arms, hands, feet, face/hair, and vest, but the big things are mostly done. America's next (it looks like I need to make him a smidge taller than England - APH fans, input?), followed by Blue Beetle II. If I get mostly done with America by noon on Friday, I'll make an offer at
help_japan (or
help_japan, if they have a second round open at that time).
*considers cracking knuckles* *...reconsiders* *shakes out hands instead* Okay, let's get going!
