Back to School
Aug. 26th, 2013 12:46 pmToday started my second week of school, and my first day of "clinicals". The official name for clinicals is Professional Production, and it is effectively an unpaid internship at the teaching hotel where my classes are located. I'm on M/W/F breakfasts with the hotel for the next three weeks, and then with the cafe at main campus for two after that.
This means I have to be out the door by 5:15, so I can be in uniform and checked in by 6:00 AM. Fun times! [/sarcasm] Today I was mostly put to baking cookies, though I also salvaged some mushy strawberries to turn into a strawberry sauce the bakery will eventually use with something. No clue what's on the menu for Wednesday, though I do hope I get to work with yeast bread again soon. I love bread something fierce.
The nice thing about my current schedule is, for the next five weeks or so, there are two weekdays where I don't have to wear my uniform! The downside is that my feet already hate me for being on them four hours today, and aren't likely to warm up to me in the near future. Though maybe some insoles for my uniform's shoes would help. I'm also going to have to see if there are semi-open classrooms I can camp out in before/after/between classes, because otherwise I'm going to have trouble getting my homework done. Outside-of-class work and I do not get along (one of the reasons why I love the baking program - so much of it is practical in-class work!), and having the equivalent to a study hall would really help my productivity.
The really great thing is that I'm seeing my friends from school again <3 I'll have to work at keeping in touch with them once this semester is over.
And now: nap time. Sleeeeeeep....
