Retirement
May. 4th, 2015 08:18 pmWelp, just sent my Intent To Retire e-mail to the convention execs. It's intent to retire from my position as Attendee Relations Head rather than Accessibility Head/the convention entirely, but last week's horrendous senior officers meeting has shown me that even what I had originally perceived as "perks" have huge downsides that I don't want to deal with. I am perfectly okay going back to Accessibility only now, and will hopefully be able to focus better on it in the upcoming year.
I gave it my best shot despite my misgivings, and I found out that my intuition was correct: I am a poor fit for this job, and leadership roles in general. (Boy, how I love learning the same damn lesson over and over and fucking over again! It's so great! Especially when you learn the hard way! That's totally the best thing ever! [/sarcasm])
Anyway, I think my e-mail was clear and to-the-point, though I'm slightly worried that the execs will try to convince me to stay on, even while secretly (or not-so-secretly) agreeing with all of my reasons for retirement. I've been reading a lot of Captain Awkward lately, though, and that's helped me cement my decision (and figure out the wording of the letter, to an extent). The good Captain would probably have advised against me even staying out the rest of the year, but I don't think I'm quite up to that level of assertiveness yet.
Bottom line: I'm out of this leadership position after this year.
In lighter news, I now have not only one, but two recordings of my Marvel Cinematic Universe fic, User Interface! The first one I commissioned for myself (since I thought a lot of people seemed to like the fic, and maybe people would like a podfic of it, too!), and then the second one was a complete surprise (proving my intuition right ;) ). The first one can be found over here [NSFW image at link] (I sure hope I linked it before), and the second one can be found towards the bottom of this post. Happy listening to all those who partake!
