Beating the heat
Jun. 27th, 2021 12:48 amSunday and Monday of this week, we had really nice weather. Super duper nice. So nice that Mom turned off the AC so we could have windows open instead.
On Tuesday, the weather started getting too warm again, so that ended.
On Wednesday, I noticed that I was sweating when I got upstairs; I tend to sweat at lower temperatures than a lot of people, but not usually at "standard" room temperature, so I asked Mom if we'd turned the AC back on. Turns out not! She also confirmed that the indoors upstairs temp was 83F/28.3C, which was definitely time to turn the AC on.
On Thursday, after a night of fitful sleep, I looked at the AC controls and asked if I could turn the activation temperature down, because we had it set for 79F/26C, but the temp was still reading around 83F/28C. I got permission, and set the activation temp for 75F/23.8C. With a much larger difference between the current temp and the activation temp, I was certain that the AC would start up at any moment.
Friday, after yet another fitful night of sleep, I held my hand up to my ceiling vents; yes, air did seem to be passing through them, though not much. I then checked the thermometer/AC control once again; 84F/28.8C. I reported to my parents that something appeared to be wrong with the AC.
All this is to say, it may not be as bad as what the US west coast is getting right now, but I'm damn grateful that I was already reblogging "beat the heat" methods on Tumblr for the folks out there. Also there will be no blanket tonight; only top sheet, and fan possibly at the highest setting.
