A priest and a saint walk into a bar...
Mar. 19th, 2022 11:48 pmThursday was Saint Patrick's Day, and as is my father's wont, he dressed up as the saint in question and went around from bar to bar, offering blessings. "A blessing on this bar; a blessing on all the people in this bar; a blessing on the tender of this bar; and a blessing on anyone who will buy Saint Patrick an Irish whiskey." (Or something along those lines.)
This year, the priest of our parish (St. Patrick's) asked to come along.
When Dad got home, I asked him how it went, and he said they had a pretty good time! A decent number of people bought him drinks (and one just straight up gave him ten bucks to buy his own), and it had been interesting to go out drinking with a priest.
"Too bad you didn't have a minister and a rabbi come along," I commented, to which the response was (as intended) much laughter 😉
It was only much later that I remembered that, because Saint Patrick's Day this year also fell on Purim, a local Rabbi might actually have been interested in joining them for the fun! I'm slightly sad I didn't think to suggest it when I first found out about the priest joining in; it would've made for a great story for everyone involved, IMO.
