Various and sundry
Feb. 8th, 2025 09:37 pmI've been wearing my nap earrings almost constantly since they arrived. I've taken them out a few times, only for a short period of time, and usually put them right back in. The most recent time was early this afternoon, and testing the piercing made me very pleased with the results!
That said, I likely will be taking them out for a bit longer in the near future; Grandma's funeral is on Wednesday, and my family will be flying down to Texas for the service on Tuesday. I plan to take the earrings out before I leave and pack them in my carry-on bag, then apply them again at some point after we land. Or possibly just after going through security, depending. And then I'll be doing the same for our flight back.
I can't say I'm particularly looking forward to flying, but flying with someone is not as bad a flying solo, and I'll be traveling with both my parents and my younger brother. For the plane ride itself, and any waiting-to-board I'll have to do, I plan to bring a few creative projects, as well as my headphones, to maybe listen to some things on my phone.
Speaking of creative projects, my latest fic is plugging along! I've got the first two of a planned four-or-five chapters(?) done. At this point, I am leaning towards posting the fic in chapters, but I'll have to decide how I want to approach that on AO3; I decided that I want to leave any fics I post in the future unlocked for a week after posting, and then lock up again after—at least until the point where I'm less worried about AI assholes scraping the archive to make fake podfics 🙄 (Personal choice here, I am not judging anyone who makes a different decision.)
This complicates posting chaptered fics somewhat. For this fic, I'm going to try and have it complete before I post, but one of the reasons I want to post it chaptered instead of as a oneshot is because I want to see the reactions to the individual sections! (The fic itself also seems to be lending itself to being chaptered very well, or I wouldn't be thinking about it at all.) My current plan is to post a new chapter ever second or third day, and then leave the entire thing unlocked until a week after the final chapter goes up; since the fic itself is unlikely to be much longer than 10k (which still puts it at probably the longest I've written since I started posting to AO3, and thus keeping track), and only four, maybe five chapters, that'll have it unlocked on AO3 for about two, two-and-a-half weeks total. I think I'll be okay with that. The other option is to post it all locked down, then open it up for a week after the final chapter is posted, which might be 'safer', but I'll probably miss out on some fun interactions that way.
So yeah; that's it for me at the moment. Anything you've been wanting an excuse to talk about?
