Quote me, in March of last year: "It also just occurred to me... Paramount and Nick are probably going to want to go all out with producing merchandise for advertising the movie, both before and after it actually comes out. How ironic would it be for them to finally produce a Katara action figure, only for her to be white with blond hair, simply because of the movie's horrible casting decisions? I think I would cry."

Yeah. I totally called it.



The part of me that loves gloating over being right (rude though it is) is currently at war with the part of me that's horrified at exactly what I was right about. I think I may start that crying session now.

With the cartoon, we got genderfail action figures.

Now we have a racefail movie ... that actually gives us an action figure of Katara. WE JUST CAN'T WIN.

to be fair, she's not blonde ^_^;;;
And you could always paint the skin darker? That's what's so nice about figurines! And not TV screens. it's hard to paint people after the fact ^_^;;;
Also, based on the outfit that the waterbenders are wearing, it seems they made them Scandinavian. which is kinda cool. I'm just going to do what I did with the HP books and movies, and not compare the two, just see them as separate entities ^_^;; then I can enjoy all the hot special effects we know this movie will be full of.

Well, not quite. Though I'd call her hair more of an "aged" blonde than entirely not blonde.

And actually spend money on something this travesty is putting out? No, thanks. Besides, even with brownface, she still doesn't look like Katara. In fact, if I didn't know who she was supposed to be, I'd be asking what show she was from.

A little late for me -_-a I don't see her clothing as particularly Scandinavian, either. Still, by January of next year, I suppose the movie might have flopped hard enough to have faded from the general public memory, so I might be able to pretend it doesn't exist at all. (Yeah. Have I mentioned that I'm an anti-caster? Because I am. BAD CHOICES WERE MADE, PARAMOUNT.)

at least they didn't have Jesse McCartney be zuko. I would have found him and STRANGLED him if I had.

I guess, while I'm not happy with it, other things in my life took precedence over it, like, worrying about healthcare and my father having cancer, so this really started to seem insignificant compared to those things ^_^;;; which is probably why I got over it. and I'll see how it is before I give my judgement on it, I do want to be somewhat fair. I've never been a fan of judging a book by it's cover.
But that's just me. Again, not happy with what they did, but life took precedence.

Hmm. I guess I'd have to see it in real life to form a better opinion (except that I don't ever want to, because it's horrifying enough as a picture on the internet). Or maybe I just think of Peltz as blonde, and so make the doll blonde by association. Or it could well be that I'm just crap at judging hair color ^^a

True, that =_= I can only hope he left because he came to his senses.

Those are 100% legit reasons to not worry about the movie as much. But I'm sure you didn't need me to tell you that.

Yeah, and I probably have a different opinion b/c I am blonde and I'm used to blonde being lighter.

I think they told him no when the riots began. and heck, I was part of those riots! No pop singer will ever play Zuko >_<

heh, yeah, it's just that, once the movie was being made and they'd made all the changes they were going to, I figured that my energy could be directed better at something else. I would have loved if they'd darkened up the waterbenders' skin a bit (hey, that's what makeup is for!) but they didn't, so I'm not going to worry too much. I'll judge it as a movie when it eventually comes out...if it ever get to Japan T___T

So true. There are more lengthy trailers out now, with some lovely (and by "lovely" I mean mind-searingly painful) screencaps over here. The level of fail is just... beyond spectacular. And I don't mean that in a good way.

Also, that person's icon reminded me of another reason I wouldn't have been able to take it seriously. Aasif Mandvi as Zhao. I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face XD.

Also, why the fuck does not!Katara look so scared/worried/anxious in that one photo? Not only would everyone have had some combat training (as suggested by Sokka's attempt to rally the "troops" of little kids), she's also a waterbender, even if she doesn't know completely everything about it. I may be blowing things out of proportion, but for some reason, it really just pisses me off.

Well, I'm pretty sure Suki will only make a bit appearance in the first movie (if any), Toph won't show up until the (as yet hypothetical, and may it remain only imagined!) second movie, Azula only gets two snippets in the first season (plus the opening credits, and Ty-Lee and Mai get absolutely nothing), and you can't really call Yue "action-y". Though if they were going to change -anything- from the series, I would've loved to see more (of the) kickass ladies in the first part.
