So! This requires a teensy bit of back story.

At some time during the con, my jaw suddenly started to hurt when I chewed things for too long. This wasn't terribly good, but it was nothing that was going to keep me from the convention, so I lived with it.

The condition persisted more than a few days, I'm sad to say, so I went back to Oral Surgery Associates on Tuesday afternoon to get checked out. Turns out I had gotten dry socket somehow. I was given two options: get some bio-absorbable stuff stuffed into the hole and hope that solved the problem, or wait and hope that solved the problem. I went with option one, which tasted terrible, but did seem to do most of what I was hoping.

Fast forward to Wednesday evening. I had made chocolates earlier in the afternoon, and was enjoying eating them. Sadly, they were still quite cold and hard from being in the 'fridge, and chewing was still not 100%. I decided to give it a go anyway, and part way through one of the chocolates in question, I heard some sort of *crack*. I immediately assumed it was something in my mouth, an assumption backed up by the mild pain that accompanied it. I resolved to just let the chocolate melt in my mouth for the rest of the night.

Went to bed around two-ish, at which point the stoppage came loose from the hole in my mouth. Went to sleep anyway.

Woke up the next morning in pain. Fairly constant pain. Fairly considerable pain. On a scale of one to ten, I'd put it at least a five or a six, seven for persistence. Cramps are not helping.

Due to the stress of one thing and another, I probably won't be calling OSA again today, but will instead go crying to Mom (for a certain value of "go crying to") and hope she will be more organized and ready to deal with things than I.

In the mean time, I'll be taking my rats to the vet to be treated for mites and attempting to learn Espiranto. (Yes, it really is that easy to learn. I recommend it to everyone.)

Edit: Oh yeah, HEY FRIENDS LIST, app me up some canonmates for campfuckudie! I'll beta for you? It'll probably take about two hours, since I like to be really, really thorough, so the latest I'll accept anything is probably 5:00 pm Central on Friday afternoon. But please, app Sonoko up some people she knows! She'd love to see someone familiar, and also to gloat over the fact that she knows more about camp than they do through virtue of having been there longer. Pleeeeaaaase? I'll write you fic, or draw you something, and it would make my jaw-related pain that much more bearable! *puppy eyes*

In regards to the first concern: posting in general is hard, but intro posts are exponentially so. I've only done an intro post myself so far, and even that I had to really psych myself up for; since then I've really just been jumping other people's posts.
In regards to the second concern: CFUD is awesome like that. We have love memes and a concrit comm, where if you feel you're doing badly at something, you can ask for tips on how to fix it - or just general reassurance that you're being paranoid or something. The fears rarely go away completely, but time and experience help shut them up a little. Also meds.

Very true. Not that I have any room to complain... I CAN HELP YOU WITH THAT. Though I still recommend you look through a few voting posts to get a feel for style. And then start looking for a joke you could work with - what's special about Ran that could be funny in certain situations? Etc, etc, etc. Aaaaaapp heeeerrr for meeeee.

I've never really had trouble with intro posts, unless there's a certain way to do an intro post in that comm? I'm...worse at thinking of ways to comment on people's entries, really XD

At least most of the time my weird imagination results in strange/interesting plunnies that become fics. I have looked at a couple of voting posts when you or someone else has linked them. Still wouldn't know where to start writing one D: I'm really not trying to be difficult...but Ran's running things are: going all ninja on people, getting weepy about Shinichi, and being scared of ghosts and monsters.

Not that I'm aware of, aside from adding the obligatory OOC note at the bottom stating that you're new/have a new character, so plz not to rape, etc. Okay, I suck at explaining how to do the latter, so EXAMPLE from recent post: Character A is complaining about getting lemonade up his nose. Reply as your character would react ICly. Kaito, for example, might correct Character A and pull something more like a handkerchief out from his nose. Aoko might inquire if he was alright. A meaner character might laugh. A character who spoke less might wordlessly pound on Character A's back in an attempt to help. Just... Make the characters respond to the situation the same way they would as if you were writing a fic and that sort of thing came up. Except in first person/present tense (where appropriate).

Do you mean if you app the wrong character and/or say something that turns out to be wildly inappropriate in your app, or do you mean if your app doesn't make the 70% cut-off? If it's the former, well, you can always apologize anonymously and try to explain your reasoning, and hopefully they'll understand, though sometimes they can be a little... touchy. And if you're apping someone from a particular canon and there's other characters already there who might have issues with your character, it might be good to approach them beforehand, too.
If it's the latter, I've been there, and it can be a real bitch to get over the ego bruises. You can either mope about it for months afterwards, the way I did most of the time, or you can be so determined to get in that getting out once or twice wouldn't stop you, the way I approached apping Sonoko. (I was lucky enough to get in, but if I hadn't, I would've given it at least another go or two. And then I might've let the emo crush me ¦D) Some characters took more than one attempt to get in - Shuichi, for example, took at least four tries, but he got in eventually.
Either way, getting a good beta can help you with a lot of things, from confidence in sending in the app, to giving you the gumption to fix what needs to be fixed, to helping you pick up the pieces and reapp.

Very true. ...It occurs to me that a public post in my journal would probably not be the best place to talk about this ¦D;;; Er. I'm up for feeding the app juices on an IM program or setting up a filter or something?

I'm on MSN right now? Maybe that would be a better/easier place to discuss the matter? I'm really not trying to be difficult--I am open to the idea. It's just that if I fail dramatically at this LJ RP-ing thing (as I've done thus far with Brawl), part of me wishes that my grand failure would be on a...slightly smaller scale XD
