Current impression of Nanoha, first impression of Gurren Lagann, and travel plans

Nanoha: Bolted through about six episodes of Nanoha today, getting me through the last of the second season (Magical Girl Nanoha A's) and the first episode of the third (Magical Girl Nanoha StrikerS). Unfortunately, my copy of the last episode of A's was horribly corrupted near the end, so I didn't get a very good grasp on what was going on, but I still loved it. I'm going to try and track down a better copy of it tonight.

I've got nothing but good things to say about the first two seasons, and it's looking like I won't hate the third. It's a completely different tone from the first two, but it still looks interesting, and probably paves the way for lots of "in between these two events" stories. Also, lesbian subtext.

Gurren Lagann: ...Okay, yes, I watched the first episode last night. And I liked it, but...

...I'm pretty sure I'm going to be in it for the plot. And that that the characters and the giant robots and stuff will come second.

I'm also pretty sure that I have a different sub than most of my f'list, since the famously quoted lines weren't worded quite the same in the version I have. But I could well be wrong about that.

Travel Plans: AKA, Visiting candy__chan:

I can go! \o/ These are the conditions Mom laid out:

1. I can drive myself there on Saturday.

2. Parents will sit down and work out a safety plan with me before I go. (Example: I'll have to take the cell phone and start home before dark, etc.)

3. I will need to pay for gas, but Ron still needs someone to mow his lawn, and I'd get twenty dollars for that, so it's still slightly possible for me to go to the Suzanne Vega concert in addition to buying a book/costume supplies/visiting Candy ^_^

4. Tomas gets the car on Sunday, no ifs ands or buts.

5. The responsibility I demonstrate on this trip will influence the amount of trust my parents put in me in the future. So yeah, I'm going to be taking the restrictions fairly seriously.

Now that's settled, Candy! Do you want me to bring you any tasty goodies on DVD? Or CD, that's good too. *has gotten the burner to work, huzzah*


...Oh yeah, tasty goodies on DVD, that's right. rasgos_76, I don't know if you're reading this or not, but you are so getting awesome fanstuff for this ♥♥♥ (Translation: I got the package, and was made very happy. Some CFUD person remind me who spawned the Angst!Pac real quick, would you? Y-yeah.)

Edit: Okay, who took all of my "Let's go jump posts and do stuff!" CFUD mojo and what did you do with it? Not that I had much to start with, mind...

Mm, I can see that happening. A's is probably going to end up being one of my favorite anime arcs ever. I also get the feeling that the writers/producers/whatever were originally trying for Yuuno/Nanoha, but I don't think they really managed it that well -_-a

Yeah, from the first season, I kinda saw Yuuno/Nanoha and Fate/Chrno.... But yeahm Chrno became Fate's brother and Yuuno picked books over Nanoha... and I don't know what happened in StrikerS, But since you haven't finished it, I shall not go on more~ :D

btw: Read any of the Nanoha manga? I'm not sure how I feel on that :? seems more Fate/Nanoha ish. DX Fate really doesn't seem like she'd be paired with anyone shown in the show.. (well non yuri paired)

I don't blame you; I know I have problems with subconsciously synthesizing my opinion with those of others, so I should probably either do the same or wait until I've seen/read and then compare. I don't know enough Japanese (yet), alas D: I do use Okazu to find new yuri series, though.

I don't like to watch yuri/yaoi, Shoujou ai/shounen ai, I can deal...>> though I did watch Strawberry panic... and it was oddly addicting XDDD I heard that St. Mary -something was good... XD but I just read my import mangas and what not to find out what to watch/read...>> and I always seem to come across Yuri/Yaoi XDD wtf. but I give anything a chance really... I got some chapters when I bought the Megumi Magazine (omg XD teh yuri, hentai pervert-ness...but it covers so many non-shounen shows DX and POSTERS) from what I read... I didn't really get what was going on... I'm sure if I go back and read it might explain some stuff...>> hopefully...

The sad thing is, whenever I picture it, it's always got lots of ...liquid involved, like in way too many Japanese doujinshi o.O

I tend to like a little bit of everything myself (too?), though I do feel that boys/girls love tends to make the relationship dynamics more interesting. Yuri/shoujo-ai/girls love tends to appeal to the elitist in me too, since there's just that much less to sort through ^^a I've read some of Strawberry Panic, and while slightly put off by the main character's "cute" speech patterns, I did end up enjoying it. That's Maria-sama ga Miteru, often translated as The Virgin Mary Watches Over You or similar. There's definite yuri subtext, and overt text in some places (*cough cough* Sei *cough cough*), and it's pretty school-oriented for the most part? The main character is the one in my icon here; she makes adorable faces X3

Yep, it's television :3 Have no fear, I shall introduce you to the wonders of Veoh! It's like YouTube, except with better resolution, it doesn't cut episodes into chunks of ten minutes, and it lets you download anything for free and, to the best of my knowledge, with no download limit :Dbbb It is my new love~

Episode 3 is what really sells it (although it had me at "DON'T BELIEVE IN YOURSELF; BELIEVE IN ME WHO BELIEVES IN YOU").

Also, um, episode 04 didn't happen. Except the characters it introduces are kinda important. But don't hold episode 04 against the series.

Not yet, no; I'll have to give it a try. XD I guess it depends on what you like? I'm personally liking season three the best, which is all OVAs so far, but I like the book(s) best.
