Octarine Day (or that day you get when you add two and six three times in a row)

Okay, so, I know the rest of the world is celebrating today as "OLYMPICS DAYYY! 8D", but my brother and I have decided to do something different. See, here's how it went:

Me: You know, the Olympics start today.
Him: Oh yeah? Huh.
Me: Yeah. It's 8-8-08.
Him: Ahaha. It's too bad there's nothing that significant about the number 8.
Me: ...Well, there is in Discworld.
Him: Oh, yeah! Octarine and stuff!
Me: We should totally make this Octarine Day or something.
Him: Definitely!

So I would be trying to celebrate with something nice and Pratchett-ish, but uh. I didn't think to prepare anything. Still, happy Octarine Day, everyone! It's way extra magical. *hears snow, tastes tin, etc* I wonder if I should make some sort of annual holiday out of this... "Write magical fic on 8/8 'cuz it's OCTARINE DAY" or something. Hmmm...


Also, my lack of updates is totally legit, as I am still in the process of moving. *should ttly be moved out by now, FAILURE*

Eight has plenty of significance in Chinese culture! Like half of my dad's family's neighbors had a family member getting married when we visited them and happened to be there on the western new years, just because it was 2008. It's like the number seven in the west, and how there were loads of people getting married on 7/7/07, if I remember.

Huh! Makes sense. Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure it's significant in Japanese culture as well (eight-headed hydra, eight million spirits/gods, etc).
