Teen Wolf 3x23
Mar. 17th, 2014 11:12 pmIn a word: Wow. Sadly, it is not a good wow.
First, Derek helping the twins. Three possibilities:
1) This is supposed to imply he's forgiven them for holding his younger sister and two of his betas hostage, then later killing two of his betas;
2) This is supposed to imply that he's overlooking their past transgressions for the sake of the pack and/or that pack bonds/ties overpower any other animosity;
3) This is supposed to show Derek trying to be a better person than either of them, in which case I would still expect at least a little more animosity/coldness towards them than he has actually shown.
I like the third best, which probably means it's the least likely. Though there was some nice perspective on the twins at the beginning of 3B, so maybe there's hope?
Second, I was really hoping that Lydia was going to pull a Self-Rescuing Princess there.
Third! The tricksters that the nogitsune listed: Coyote, Raven, Fox. We've got two of those on the character roster. It probably doesn't mean anything, but fandom has trained me to read way too far into the smallest hints, so consider that noticed. (Also, if we get a Raven, I officially vote that we also get a Spider. Sorry, arachnophobes!)
Fourth: Allison.
4a) Well, there goes another prominent female character. Does this mean we need to start a countdown for Lydia?
4b) Wow, does it suck to be Isaac right there. Sorta-girlfriend dying, in the arms of her ex-boyfriend (who she dumped), basically confessing that she still loves her ex-boyfriend, while you are grievously injured yourself? Not fun.
4c) Is this one of those things where the female character who isn't going to have sex with the main male character is punished via death? I don't actually watch enough live action to have noticed this trend myself, but I hear it's a thing. I mean, this is well after both characters seem to have moved on, but I'm not sure what the statute of limitations is on that particular narrative device.
4d) If Lydia didn't have motivation to research resurrection techniques before, she seriously does now. Also, now would be an opportune time for her to call Erica and Boyd back from the dead as well.
Fifth: Uh, Meredeth's cool, I guess? IDK what else to say just now. Oh wait, Coach getting back at his bully was also pretty cool. Tiny guilty piece of schadenfreude right there.

Date: 2014-03-18 01:45 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if she was fridged for Scott or for her dad. I mean, there was the touching "I still love you," confession to Scott, but a conversation with some friends of mine has made me wonder: Scott got a new girlfriend in 3B (Kira). After all the buildup the show had for Scott-n-Allison-OTP-5EVAR, it did seem kinda weird, though at the time I thought it was one of the rare instances of the show portraying teenager behavior reasonably accurately. Scott's mom had a little speech early on in 3B about how teenagers tend to think their first real relationship is true love, but that's not always the case. Now I'm wondering if Kira isn't with Scott at least partly to help "cushion" his fall once Allison is killed.
Meanwhile, Allison's dad got a long "I love you and admire you" speech from Allison right before she went off to do the thing that got her killed; his wife is dead, his sister is dead, his father is dying horribly (I'd like to think he's actually dead by now, but the show has a bad habit of keeping the white dudes alive when they don't need to be), and now his daughter is dead. He got flack from another hunter (a relative, maybe?) for "letting" his daughter change their code from "We hunt those who hunt us" to "We protect those who need protecting". He recently started sorta-working with Derek and kinda-getting-along with him to boot. He doesn't have anywhere soft to land, metaphorically speaking.
I can hope as much as I want that it's because Crystal Reed got a better offer somewhere or wants out of the show in general, and not just that Allison's death was planned out since the beginning, but they still could've kept her alive. Hell, they sent Jackson off to London rather than killing him off; they could've sent Allison to France to study with any Argents there and/or try and spread the new motto instead of killing her off. By comparison, this is a fucking insult.
