So I joined Habitica (AKA HabitRPG) on Friday, and so far it's going pretty well for me? It's only my fourth day in, but I've grown to level three and accomplished a couple of things that have been on my to-do list for a loooooong time now. I am cautiously optimistic about keeping things up! Especially since it looks like there's a system in place that allows you to go on vacations or whatever without losing HP for missing daily tasks.

Anyway, level three means that the item drop system has been activated, and I got a wolf egg to commemorate this! I'm guessing that everyone gets an egg once they reach level three and activate said system, since the guy who first introduced me to the game had (at the time) just reached level three and gotten an egg himself, and they supposedly drop randomly after you complete tasks. It was a bit of a struggle the first day not to add too many tasks and get overwhelmed, and it may be again now that I need to get a hatching potion by random drop 9_9a I need to look into item drop percentages so I can manage my expectations.

I'm not at all sure how I feel about forming a party yet. "Social Accountability" is one side of a coin whose other side is "Peer Pressure and Shaming". Plus, there's a fair amount of stuff there that seems to be associated with weight, which I'm not even remotely fond of. So I might just keep my nose out of the social aspect and stick to solo gaming. It's helped me do stuff so far, I'm not going to risk breaking it if I don't have to.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes. If I make it through a month and still enjoy it, I may go for one of the sponsorship options. In the mean time, I'm off to see if it's got a GameFAQs entry that can talk to me about drop rates.

Yeah, the first drop isn't random. Drop percentages are calculated by your perception stat and rise accordingly with level. After level 10, if you choose a primary or secondary perception-related class, you'll be getting a lot more item drops, but at the beginning (or if you don't choose a class with perception bonus equips) it's a lot lower. I know I got frustrated sometimes at the beginning, because even though things would drop, they would be the wrong things.

Re: party, I would just like to attest that if you're fairly regular about your dailies, you can absolutely solo your way through quests as a mage. (I am in a party, but my fellow party member is a lot lower level than me so I ended up being the major damage dealer.) That said, while there absolutely seems to be a lot of peer pressure level social accountability on the more "looking for party" areas of Habitica, nobody but you can see your tasks or how you choose to distribute them.

And chances are you've already found this, but: habitica.wikia.com/ is the font of all information Habitica!
