Treats for lurkers! And non-lurkers, whatever.

Anyway, some of you may remember that steampunk-ish story I keep talking about from time to time. I've had a few scribbles of various Steampunk Vet Outpatients saved up, so I thought I'd share them :) Uh, possible [Trigger Warning] for animals who have completely recovered from severe harm?

Steampunk Vet Outpatients:

[Description: Pencil drawing of a ferrit with a mechanical left forepaw. Its body is oriented left, but it's facing the viewer directly. There is a small, semi-mechanical heart mark in a speech bubble right next to its head.]

Ferret :O Ze's the first Outpatient I drew, aside from the main character's cute animal companion in various stages of design. I just couldn't resist including the little steampunk'd heart :) I'll probably be making it into an icon eventually or something.

[Description: Pen drawing of a cat from the chest up, oriented slightly leftward. It is cleaning itself with a mechanical paw (also front left) with both eyes closed. It has splotches of dark and medium "shading" to indicate calico or cream-and-gray spots.]

Kitty! I'm not entirely fond of kitty, I'm afraid :/ Still, considering it and the next two were all drawn in pen, it's a pretty good looking steampunk cyborg pet.

[Description: Pen drawing of a large-ish dog from the neck up, facing left; likely German shepherd coloring. Its ears and the surrounding area are mechanical.]

Doggy! These were also all drawn on the same sheet of paper, in addition to all being in pen. I'm pretty happy with the way ze turned out, though I have more difficulty trying not to think of why ze needed treatment :(

[Description: Pen drawing of a black hooded rat, body oriented leftward, head turned around rightward as it licks its back clean. Its tail is mechanical and attached with a wide metal base.]

Ratty! Tails are totally important for balance, you guys. And also for circulation/maintaining homeostasis, though I don't know how well a steampunk tail would do with that aspect :|a Anyway, it doesn't diminish the "cute" factor, so it's all good to me.

[Description: Pencil drawing of a rabbit, facing left. Its hindquarters are entirely mechanical, and a small cloud of steam rises from its tail vent. In front of it is a small charcoal briquette with a bite mark.]

The most recent drawing, and probably the most severely injured patient of them so far :( Bunny here may in fact need to eat a certain amount of coal to keep hir engines going (but it's mostly plant matter anyway, so that should be okay). As to why I decided to represent this with a charcoal briquette, well, they're fairly easy to draw and recognize, so. There you go.

Anyway, since the main storyline (which I'm going to be refering to as SZMLP for want of an actual title) is going to involve a fair amount of hurt and suffering animals, I figured Steampunk Vet Outpatients and Adoption stories would be a great antidote to some of that. I'll probably slide a few in between chapters or something. (I feel a little bad about the lack of realism WRT actual injuries and treatments as suffered by various pets, but uh. Considering some of the other hand-waves I'll be making in the story, it won't be too far off ._.; )

And now for something completely different (with no trigger warning, even):

Unfinished Business

[Description: A pencil drawing of two more-or-less conventionally beautiful white women side-by-side. The woman on the right is slightly shorter and thinner, with long hair and bangs that frame her face; she wears a woman's T-shirt with a spiral on the front and is oriented slightly leftward; she is grinning, teeth implied but not illustrated. The woman on the left is somewhat more full-figured, with her hair in a spiral-y up-'do; there is a curl by her eye, and a mole by the right side of her mouth. She is oriented slightly rightward and is smiling, teeth not shown.]

These are the two main characters of another comic thing that I'm going to get to eventually. ...Probably even before SZMLP, actually; I've got a more solid storyline in mind for them and everything, so \o_O/

Basic premise: The woman on the right is our main character. She's made something of a, uh, living for herself by acting as a liasion between the living impaired and other supernatural entities and the living/human world. By helping tidy up unfinished business, actually. (Mostly the pay is crap, for various reasons, but a lot of the ghosts make up for it by helping her track down really valuable stuff at second-hand stores and so forth that she can buy cheap and re-sell at a profit. That's how she makes most of her money, really. She may or may not run a pawn shop called Unfinished Business, I have yet to decide for certain.)

The woman on the left starts out as just one of Main Character's most recent clients, albeit a rather flirty one. As her business in this realm starts getting closer to being finished, though, she realizes that she's pretty serious about Main Character, and that Main Character might just also be interested back - if her client weren't a ghost about to finish her time in the mortal realm.

SPOILERS: (Highlight to read) So Ghosty McGee here strikes a deal with the same mysterious forces in charge of Our Main Character's paycheck, and the rest of the (I'm thinking short) series is dedicated to Ghosty working together with Main Character to eventually get a "second chance": a new human body and a hand-wave at reality to insert her back into mortal life. Ghosty will also be working to win Our Main Character's heart, since Main Character is still a bit reluctant to date a ghost, but eventually they live (yes, live) happily ever after together :)

...I'm thinking that when death eventually catches up with them, the first one to die will totally haunt the second one until she is joined in the afterlife ;) The living woman will be the dead one's unfinished business, as it were.

I'm pretty happy with these designs as they are, though Main Character's shirt really only has a DW-inspired spiral on it because I couldn't come up with something I liked better at the time :|a I'll probably get something eventually, though. Oh, and I'm definitely going to have to figure out how to draw Ghosty's hair style from the other side. (Or do I? Hmm, artistic liberty...)

Anyway, I guess that's it for now, or at least until I get the vargouille pattern up :) I hope you all enjoy the rest of Lurker Day, however much of it is left for you ♥ And every day, really ;)
