Guess who's finally complete? 8D

[Image description: Crocheted versions of the personified countries America (left) and England (right) from the series "Axis Powers Hetalia" stand side-by-side; they face the camera directly.]
All in all, I'm pretty pleased with how these two turned out :) Though there may yet be some details I need to remedy. Printouts are not always accurate to original color, for one thing, and I was too lazy to go looking for more reference images for another ^^a
America's keeping the wire glasses, mostly because I still haven't been arsed to get myself over to Hobby Lobby. Whatever, they look good. They aren't directly attached to his head either, so there can be glasses "stealing" antics if his future owner is so inclined. For his cowlick, I used the same glue trick I used on Perry back in the day - though I'd forgotten between then and now both how much glue it takes, and how long waiting takes 9_9a
Their facial features took me a while :/ That is, their ears were no problem to figure out, but the proportions of their eyes had me going for a while, and I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about their noses. I kinda skipped both entirely on the only other human-ish characters I've made so far, so these are the first I've made, especially at that size. They're kinda lumpy and not very anime-looking :/ Still, they get the idea across. For their eyes (and America's mouth), I eventually ended up drawing circles roughly the right size on a piece of paper, and then fudging in their approximate features in pencil; I cut those out and used them for a pattern. Those features are felt with acrylic paint.

Not much to say about their back-sides that I didn't already cover discussing the front. Oh, I will say that I ended up almost completely re-doing England's hair. I originally had it parted down the middle, but that just didn't look quite right; I ended up taking everything I could out and just avoiding any idea of a part altogether :P His bangs were already glued down, which is why his eyebrows' placement may look a little funny, but I think it turned out mostly okay. He did also end up with a tiny round hole at in the top of his head ._.a Uh, no reflection on his character is meant by that; that's just how adding hair/similar works sometimes.
It was after much staring at images that I eventually decided that yes, I was going to make America slightly taller than England. I'm pretty sure I got that right, at least, though how well their actual heights translate to/from their crocheted heights I'm not entirely certain ._.a I also got very slightly different colors of yarn for their hair. I used my best judgment on that, and I think I made the right decision. ...Though in any case, it's all far too glued down now for me to take out and re-do anything, so if I'm wrong, I should at least be close enough for horseshoes. (Also I am not doing it again; my wrists need a break!)
abarero, if you want to pass on any last-minute color corrections (or similar), I am totally up for that! A little paint here or there, or re-doing the embroidery on America's jacket, would definitely not be too much work. (America's collar I probably won't re-do, if only because I'd need to buy more yarn, so I really do hope that's close enough.)
Enough of that! Time for a fun story from work today :)
So, this guy came in with his kids and a vase. Filling customer's vases is a thing we do routinely, and he'd already spoken to someone on the phone about what he wanted, so that wasn't terribly remarkable. When my co-worker (who actually put the arrangement together) asked if he would just like to wait a few minutes and take it with him, he declined, saying instead that he'd take his kids to Dairy Queen for a treat and pick it up after. Figuring that he was pretty good-natured, I called out as the three of them were leaving: "Bring me back a dilly bar!"
I in no way was serious about this, and was mostly hoping to get a chuckle or something, so imagine my surprise when he came back with not one, but three dilly bars - one for each of the employees he'd heard. Way cool customer or what? :) Co-worker gave his kids an extra flower each as a thank-you, but I was kinda stuck with words :P Still a totally cool thing, though.
FYI,
help_japan's auctions are closing in about four-and-a-half hours if I'm reading the times right, so if you want something, I encourage you to go bid! As a reminder, AnimeIowa has two Sponsorship tickets up, my mom has three postcard offers up, and I've got a request for an Esperanto learning buddy or tutor up. (With regards to my request, I am seriously willing to accept even someone to just nag me on a schedule to do my lessons, though someone to practice with/check my work against is still ideal. So if you have the patience/energy to nag me, this is totally your chance to make me donate more money than I would otherwise have to support Japan! Don't make me break out the puppy eyes. *wibble*)
Follow-up interview tomorrow, with an appointment to (hopefully) donate blood shortly after. Anyone know off-hand if Lorazepam is a turn-away drug? I mean, I'm pretty sure it's not, but if I don't know I'll probably have to err on the side of caution and not take it 6_6a Not that my iron count will necessarily be high enough anyway (thanks ever so, that-time-of-the-month), but I live in hope.
