Finally watched Encanto! ...On a streaming site, rather than paying for Disney+ (ick), going to a theater (in a pandemic?!), or downloading it (DDL is sparse and I haven't torrented anything in a dog's age). This turned out to be a mistake, as I think the longest I managed to go without the site pausing to buffer was, uh. Five minutes-ish? And usually it was more like ten seconds. And at least ten second to buffer. The whole watching took closer to four hours than the 1hr 42min advertised.

Still, I've finally seen it, and I enjoyed it! I'll just be sure to buy the DVD before resorting to this streaming site again. (Though honestly, the fact that I was trying to watch on a Saturday evening between 7pm and 11pm probably didn't help much...)

That sounds like a frustrating watch experience! It's definitely one I should see, but in kind of the same boat with regards to watching options.

Yeah, it's been my experience with streaming services all too often, including with legal ones. Things have gotten better in certain circumstances (I rarely have trouble streaming Hulu on my Switch, for example), but by and large I really prefer to have my own copy of whatever, be it physical or digital.

In the meantime, I'm absorbing it via its quickly growing fandom. It's available, for sale, right now on YouTube. But I'll probably wait until next year or the year after, when the price will probably come down, and the popularity buzz will have quieted, so I can watch it with less buffering.

Right? Sometimes for weeks at a time various streaming services just... won't work well. Some of it is our crummy building internet, but that's not always the culprit!

I very much like to have physical copies of anything I like well enough that I know I'll plan on watching it repeatedly. Streaming services lose things all the time! Even digital copies of things make me nervous, despite having a fair number of ebooks and such, for fear that they can be deleted from your account at the whim of the provider, or an update wipes your account. (I do realize that's less of a concern now than it used to be, but it still makes me nervous!)

Yeah, I definitely didn't have nearly as much trouble when I had a direct internet connection instead of wireless, but, well, only so many options at the moment.

Oh, I didn't necessarily mean legal downloads... 😇

Yeah, I'll probably pick it up on DVD and/or Bluray when it's available that way, but until then... well, Yo ho ho, as they say on the high seas! (I will probably see if I can buy the soundtrack now, at least.)

That DOES help with some of those concerns, haha, and tends to be my preference if I want a digital copy of something, lol. (Slightly sad commentary that piracy is an attractive option not just for monetary reasons... but just wanting to know you control your own files!)

Soundtracks are good. Especially if you already have the visuals that go with them stored in your wetware, if not your hard drive. 😉
