Just saw the trailer for the next Pokémon core games, set to come out late this year (probably right on time for Xmas shopping, because Capitalism).

First impression: Dear sweet mercy, Nintendo staff, please unionize. A game a year cannot be healthy! (And honestly, considering Sword and Shield/the Diamond and Pearl remakes? Probably isn't that fantastic for quality, either.)

Second impression: Fire starter is a crocodile. I don't imagine it'll evolve into anything like a cow, goat, or horse, which means either it'll turn into something more snakelike, or it'll finally be the Chinese Zodiac Fire Starter combo breaker. Not sure if I'm expecting snakelike, to be honest! Snivy just did that in Gen V, and the grass starter is already an animal "me, too" with Gen VII's Litten. I mean, it's possible that they're just taking two starters from previous gens and switching their typing up a little? I just feel like, if they were going to do that, they'd do it as a whole line of regional starters, instead of creating whole new lines.

Speaking of design themes, the grass starter theme has long been considered extinct animals. Since we're getting a kitty this round, maybe it'll be a grassy smilodon/saber toothed tiger!

Also, is anyone else getting vague Mario impressions from the duck? I can't say I expect it to stay that way, but I can't say I object to it, either.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see where the starters end up going, design-wise!
