In my passion, I kinda wrote what appears to be a pretty darn good sales pitch for Dreamwidth over on Tumblr. Calling Dreamwidth the "Blogsite Of Our Own" might have been a little much, but I think some people might be starting to get why I like it here so much, so. Uh. Win, maybe?

That said, possibly a better sales pitch would be the last three paragraphs from this comment by

denise. I don't think you can really beat one of the site's co-founders and co-owners talking directly about fighting anti-privacy laws and thirty year plans for the website and so on. I swear, if I didn't already feel like I was talking too much Dreamwidth over on Tumblr, I'd copy-paste those paragraphs with a link right to the comment, because it is just. Ugh!

That really is such an excellent example of what sets DW apart from most of the rest of the internet these days, and certainly from the state of mainstream social media.

The biggest weakness is how finnicky it is to post images, yet I know that’s a huge part of how websites get monetized. It’s really unfortunate.

Honestly, I think the image thing is going to be the biggest hurdle to getting people from Tumblr interested. Reblogging? There's a third party script for that. Lurking? I'm planning to make a post that covers the basics. Finding content you like? I already made that post, actually!

Image hosting? Nothing I can do about that. Either live with the tiny amount of space Dreamwidth gives you, or find an alternate image host and embed. It's out of my hands, and increasing the limit is not something Dreamwidth can currently afford, nor is it something I can see them affording to do much of in the future. I've got some hope for the coding team to streamline the image hosting interface, but not much beyond that.
