Guess who learned about a new rat coloration? That's right, it's me! It's called "marten" or "Red Eyed Devil", because the goal is a dark coat color with red eyes. It's featured here in Irritated and my re-do of Okay (the original of which I decided looked much more like it should be "Blank"). If the new Okay rat resembles anything in particular, I don't want to hear it. (Though I suppose that, between that and the oak sprout, it might also make a fair contender for the mood "Horny"...) Also, Infuriated and Enraged definitely do use the same base image, because I couldn't decide whether I wanted to have an angry rat with a flame aura or not, and figured Both Is Good dot gif.

Anyway! Questions, me talking, etc.

Creative Rat is creating two smaller pieces of paper by chewing a strip off of a larger one 😂 My pet rats have all assured me over the years that chewing things into new shapes is very creative, and a good use of one's time!

I mostly like Ratatouille; I can attest that a rat crawling under your clothes does tickle that much, though it's also much more pointy if they happen to be crawling up via your skin rather than via the insides of your clothes. I also appreciate it as a movie that made rats more generally appealing to the population, and that the extras did work to defend them/support rats in general. As a culinary professional, I appreciate that the animators took the time to not only make sure the wild rats got clean before helping Remy out in the kitchen, but also made sure to include Remy wanting to keep his forepaws clean as the reason he goes around on his hind legs.

For downsides... Listen, rats can be trained to use litter boxes, but male rats in particular like to pee everywhere to mark ownership. The average lifespan of a rat is also usually only a couple of years even in captivity, with anything more than three being outstanding. Even hand-waving both of those for rats with human-level intelligence, the rats are doubtless getting hair everywhere in the kitchen, because I did not see so much as one full-body rat hair net.

It also suffered from Pixar's typical "lack of female characters" problem. They had an excuse for it among the humans, but only male rats? Really?

Further mixed feelings come from me having gotten my first pair of rats around six months before the movie came out, and one of my rats being gray with a white tummy and standard ears. (The other one was gray hooded with dumbo ears.) After his brother passed, and before I got him new companions, he ended up accompanying me to a charity pet photoshoot with Santa and Mrs. Claus, where he was a very fine ambassador rat, though I will never forget the one volunteer pointing him out to her child: "Look, sweetie, a Ratatouille!"


Anyway, generally good/entertaining movie, but I've also kinda lost my taste for Pixar stuff over the years. I think A Bug's Life is my favorite overall 😅

They were really easy to draw, which I appreciate at this point 😂 Bouncy was a delight! I have no idea if rat-sized trampolines exist, but I do know that rats are among the sort of critters that tend to popcorn (hop around a lot) when they're happy, especially the youngsters. Aside from the pun aspect of Okay, that rat is also like, "Well, so my seed sprouted, I guess I can live with this???"
