Man, I totes need to get myself a creative Dreamsheep icon. And then make all of my icons either Dreamsheep or fish. ANYWAY.

BIRD LOVERS! I would like to solicit your help with a thing! See, I have the urge to make a pointed griffin - color-pointed, like Siamese/Himalayan/Ragdoll/etc cats and Siamese/Himalayan rats (which are really a thing and totally adorbs besides). And while I'm having little to no trouble figuring out the coloring for the cat/lion-part of the griffin, the eagle-part is giving me a bit more trouble. Mostly the bird-specific parts. Assuming the griffin itself is seal/brown-point, what color should I make the bird legs/beak? Also brown? A darker yellow than usual? Just my normal color? If I make a blue/gray-pointed griffin, what color then?

Also, the wings! I know they're going to be on the "cold" end of the spectrum, but how much should I make really dark and how much should I make just medium dark? ATM I'm thinking the majority should be medium dark with just the feathery bits and where I bind the wire in full dark, since those areas are basically on the 'edges' of the wings, but I don't know much about birds. IDK, what's the warmest part of a bird's wing? Should I just draw diagrams of the options I'm thinking of and ask for a vote? Hrm.

Other griffin-making-related plans include: a second brown-eyed white griffin, since the one sold(!!!!) at the art show on Saturday and having a second would mean I don't need to completely take the listing down on Etsy; a griffin that's part tiger instead of part lion, with slit-pupil green eyes; and more gold-eyed brown griffins with optional gold-and-scarlet scarves that I will sell as "Godric the Griffin" because I am a geek at heart and nothing can change that. Oh, and probably a gold-eyed black griffin that I will sell as Kit, because as I said before: geek. Yes ♥

I've also got vague non-griffin crafty plans for Things In Bottles. Mostly because I didn't feel like throwing away the bottle from that dollar store oil diffuser if I could do something with it instead. I'm currently torn between a tiny octopus (because adorbs) and a tiny space shuttle (because Space!Ship in a bottle 8D). Still, I'll have another one ready to go soon enough. I also have a lightbulb bottle that I picked up at Hobby Lobby yesterday that I want to crochet a tiny Pikachu to stuff into for the lulz, and kind of want to start advertizing for OTPs-in-a-bottle (the other Ship-in-a-bottle 8DDD) but would probably need to make one or two first.

I am so looking forward to dumping stuff on the AI staff table in Artist's Alley this year ♥

You called? :D

(Siamese rats are a thing!? askfasdflkajsaflfflcuuuuuuute)

OK, so here are this bird lover's 'pinions. :D :D :D

The warmest (temperature-wise, right?) part of a bird's wing is its armpit, and the warmth runs up in a very similar formation to your arm, big veins on the ventral side of the bones. So, the leading edge can be very warm, but the trailing edge is likely to be quite cool - that's all feather, and it's about as alive as hair is, though it'll be warmed by the bird underneath as the wings are folded.

If the bird is generally light-colored with brown coloration, it's probably going to have yellow or red legs - of course, you can do what you like. ^^ Of my birds, the light-colored ones (blue, yellow/green and white) all have pink to red feet. ("Blue" is actually a "no pigment here" thing with birds, like a cat's white patches. The blue is structural interference from the way their feathers are put together, which is why blue iridescence is so common in birds. And that is probably more information than you wanted, lol.)

Darker birds will often have grey to black feet. I have one on the darker side of things - grey/green - and he's got the cutest pinky-grey feet. Something like a swan or goose will have grey through brown to black feet, though there are exceptions there, too.

Most raptors seem to be on the yellow-to-pink side. Here are some fine examples. And an eagle's talons for fun - though that is a Harpy and a little bigger than your average bird. :D

(Of course, when I draw my gryphon OC, she always has black feet even though her raptor species wouldn't. IDK.) So I think you can do whatever you prefer in the name of ART!

OTPs in a bottle. OMG. XDD

Those are soooooo cuuuuuuute. I had searched up a couple images to squee over, but yours are better. :3

I like your preliminary sketch thing! That is a very cute color scheme, and I think having the pointedness go across all six limbs is a great idea. (I have been playing around with an online griffin genetics/breeding game, and specifically am trying to do dark body/red points so as to imitate turkey vultures' actual coloring, so this is on the mind recently anyway.)

Win/win is right. :3

And now I want to have bottled essence of friendship in an Exalted game, because that would be the kind of thing roleplayers could get into real trouble with in a big hurry. Yessss.

On the other hand, I have been chuckling over 'ships in a bottle all day. (Ships, I have them. Bottles, not so much. I love it!)
