A brief Teen Wolf thought

You know what I really, really, really want for Derek Hale and Jennifer Blake? For them to have a nice, (relatively) healthy relationship, with an eventual nice, healthy relationship ending.
You know what I would be willing to settle for? A relationship ending that doesn't involve Jennifer Blake dying or being evil. Because a certain subset of fandom is more than willing to provide the latter (with bonus life elimination), and, given what's apparently happened to Erica, I am already braced for canon to supply the former.
(I secretly hope that, since Erica wasn't cut in half, this isn't the last we've seen of her, and/or that Peter's plans (whatever they may be - I totally peg him as chaotic evil, FYI) end up being impossible for him to achieve so he decides to pass his resurrection on to Erica instead as one last Fuck You to the universe and/or our collective brains.)

Alas, the show has come a long way re: valuing its main women and side queers more; this does however NOT extend to side women, or characters of color, AFAICT.

Yes, definitely -- even before I knew Davis was gay, I thought, OH HEY THIS IS A VERY GAY SHOW: aesthetics, focus, appreciation of the male body, etc. pp. I'm not complaining; inter alia I appreciate naked guys (who are not teens; thank you, US television) running through the woods, doing workouts, all heaving chests etc. pp.
But it is also very gay in a mainstream US sense, i.e. white-cis-male!gay. No one else really need to apply -- although someone very clearly had a stern talking to Jeff, so in Season Three there is a stronger focus on Allison and Lydia, our white-cis-female characters.
(Don't get me started on the Magic Negro in this show please. Sigh. Such a waste of Seth Gilliam. ♥)

THIS EXACTLY, sweet mercy. (I seriously laughed my ass off over the fact that "Shirtless Montage" was the third listed extra on the season one box set. And that "Shirtless Montage 2.0" is an extra on the season two box set, even if it is farther down the list.) Now, if someone could start talking to him about race as well, this show might start to be slighly less of a guilty pleasure for me and start edging closer to a genuine pleasure.
As an aside, it's really nice to be able to talk to someone about this sort of stuff! I'm not on Tumblr because of personal preference, which means I miss out on a lot of discussion and conversation, as well as fandom trends (fail included). It's lovely to be able to do it again, especially since I'm still learning how to deconstruct media properly from a feminist perspective.

Date: 2013-07-16 08:51 pm (UTC)I like it, but it has PROBLEMS. So yeah.
I hear you -- I have a tumblr, but I hate using it for any kind of verbal communication that's not mere slogans. I wish people still used word-based fora such as this one.
Gotta get back to studying, but please write more meta; I'd love to read it (and talk to you about it)!

Date: 2013-07-16 09:05 pm (UTC)I've been tempted a few times to advertise my crochet and art stuff, but have always decided not to bother. For fandom stuff, I really prefer to be able to tell who said what.
I approve of this plan! Also, I hope studying goes well for you!
