Don't give me that look! It's a valid topic!
So. We're reading Dante's Inferno for World lit, right? And Mr. Hartwig gives us this 'Right Brain' assignment (only he called it left brain because he _has_ no left brain for such things). Basically, we get two weeks to do something really cool and artsy, only it has to be Dante's Inferno themed. And he goes off on a tangent about how, every year, there's this kid, or these few kids, who do something incredibly cool and stuff and everyone talks about it. And I sit there thinking, I wanna do that.
What I want to do is make a 3D map of the levels of hell. Seriously. See, I'd do one layer at a time, and there'd be rings, see, and it would all be connected together in this great big funnel shape. And I think I can pull it off in two weeks.
But the really good ideas? I just started talking about them with Mom today. If I had, say, six months instead of two weeks to work, I would love to do Dante's Apartment Complex of Eternity *grin*. See, the basement levels would be Hell, and the lobby would be Purgatory, and the upper floors would be Heaven. This is a bit of a problem as we won't be reading the Purgatorio or the Paradisio for class, nor have we yet finished reading the Inferno (so I don't know how Dante and Virgil get to Mount Purgatory or what have you).
And then Mom suggested that I could do Hell as a sleazy Hotel (with 'Hotel' in light-up neon, only 'ot' would be burnt out so it would say 'H--el' :) which would be really incredably cool. But again:
1)Have not finished book;
2)Don't have time.
Anyway, probably going to go with the 3D map idea. If I can find a way to use some of those chopsticks from way back when, that'd be better still. Maybe I can get around to those other ideas eventually.

Date: 2004-12-06 01:59 pm (UTC)otel idea, becuase the muse is possessing me and going crazy over it and it gives me an excuse to use those four thousand-plus chopsticks I have laying around.And the concierge would be that one demon with the tail, and there would be Hellevators (to borrow from that Toothfairy movie) and Hellevision and all sorts of other Hell themed hotel stuff... >D

Date: 2004-12-06 01:55 pm (UTC)You probably didn't get projects like this because all of your teachers were lazy, boring and uncreative. We have the coolest English faculty ever. And the coolest Science faculty ever. And some pretty cool art teachers, too, considering all the anime fan related projects I can get away with. Envy my education.

Date: 2004-12-06 03:23 pm (UTC)Actually I *did* have some very cool teachers-- problem was, my school district's bosses were very big on 'homogenization' (i.e., the same level of dreck produced by every teacher) and imaginative projects got squashed. Had a few that worked around this, though... like the one that let us build a Goldsberg-Effect thingie with dominos and a watermelon and skates and all sorts of stuff to demonstrate the effects of kinetic energy. THAT was fun.

Date: 2004-12-06 06:16 pm (UTC)We have some rather restrictive administrators, but that's mostly concerning student behavior. It's as if they're paranoid that we're going to join forces and rise up against them or something (which I am only occasionally tempted to do). Other than that, the teachers can get away with some pretty neat stuff, and the students who know how to use this to their advantage can make it even cooler.
Speaking of, I need help thinking of a way to use a camera to make an AMV, since the point of the project is camera familiarity. Best idea I can come up with is make the AMV on the computer, copy it to a tape, and then film the AMV playing on the television. The only problem is that it's _really_ difficult to line up the pictures so I can actually see the AMV on the film of it... you know, instead of little half-screen shots of it. That, and the actual shot wouldn't actually be changing from scene to scene. Any suggestions?

Date: 2004-12-06 07:10 pm (UTC)As for the AMV-- uhhhhhhhhhhh..... Do you know anybody with a large-screen TV and a computer hookup? Or a DVD player that plays .avi files? That way you could at least film the AMV playing on a larger screen.
