soc_puppet: Words "Creative Process" in purple (Creative Process)
[personal profile] soc_puppet
After my previous entry, who's really surprised that I've actually been thinking about a premise for a Perfect-For-Me Sci-Fi Show? :P Although, if you are surprised, it's probably because I haven't been telegraphing well enough, sigh. I do technically have a Long History of wanting to fill perceived gaps in fiction and fanfiction alike, especially once they're mentioned, but. I don't know that I've been particularly apt to demonstrate it ._.a Guess I'll find out.

Which basically means it's time for another Dreamwidth Exclusive! \o\ My previous one (and only other one so far) is over here; I have actually finished the line art in the first pic (and pretty much scrapped the plot as well, sadface :{), so I should really get around to scanning it and posting it, but wev. That would be following through on things :P

Today, I've basically got a general premise/outline sorta thing. Mostly premise. Title is definitely not final, everything is subject to change, yadda yadda yadda.

Anywho.

INFILTRATORS

Twenty-three years ago, after manipulating the world stage with amazing finesse, [Villainous Guy] took power in the Americas. Within the year, his influence spread throughout the rest of the world - and so did his most infamous creation: the Powers.

Reminiscent of superhero powers, VG designed the Powers to power-up his loyal troops. In the high concentration in controlled circumstances, about fifty percent of his soldiers gained powers; thirty percent remained unpowered, and twenty percent faced complications from the dosage but also remained unpowered.

Unfortunately for VG, at some point his Powerizing agent was leaked into the water systems across the globe, and from there the Powers spread like the flu, to old and young alike.

Three years after the Powers came into the world, VG was finally overthrown by a rag-tag group of rebels, heroes to the people. Hardly anything is known about them, let alone how they defeated VG, only that they gave the world back to the people.

It is now nineteen years after VG was overthrown, and the world governments are mostly on their feet again. While the Powers have not vanished, and have continued organically in the population, the powers that be are more concerned with one thing: VG's labs.

A city-sized complex in (area) was dedicated entirely to VG's ambitions, from how he took control to how he created the powers, and much more not even imagined. It was also where the Heroes confronted VG, and where their broadcasts took place in the year before they vanished. The New US government has collected a group of its best and brightest to infiltrate the structure, learn the fate of the Heroes and of VG, and salvage all they could from the remains of VG's projects. There are only a few problems...

One, for all that the world has come a long way, old prejudices remain. While the Infiltrators are some of the best and brightest, they are also the most "expendable" of that tier. (Stats are approximately: 66% women, 75% people of color, 45% GLBTQIA, 25% neuro-atypical, 17% PWD, 30% polyamorous, and anything else I can think of/have forgotten, with all the intersectionality that implies. They're probably between eighty and ninety-five percent powered.) They're the ones the government is least likely to miss, for all their talents, and the least likely to get the glory if they make it back.

Two, no one is quite sure what they'll find when they get to VG's labs, let alone what the government plans to do with whatever they bring back.

The mission is slated for an initial six months, to test viability, with regular check-ins. It will take skill and cooperation to get through VG's labs, and the Infiltrators will have to learn to rely on one another and work together in order not just to survive, but to thrive.

Yeah. If I actually do go through with this, it'd probably be written, with maybe some character sketches and/or other drawings. I only really have two characters even vaguely planned out, and need at least a dozen more. And then I would have to systematically come up with danger-of-the-week sorta things - only I'd probably be just updating every other month-ish in order not to burn out. Though maybe more, if it ends up making me money.

Much is subject to change. I definitely want a better name for the superhero-esque powers than, uh, Powers.

The potential main main character will be a little person/woman with dwarfism (cis), modeled somewhat after Debbie Macdonald from Animal Cops: Detroit. Ethnicity undecided, age between thirty and sixty. I'm thinking superstrength/invulnerability for her, and a sledgehammer on the side ;) I am worried whether that particular power combination is overused for little people (I'm thinking particularly of fantasy!dwarfs). If it is over-used, the fact that she's a woman and her leadership skills (did I mention she's gonna have kickass leadership skills and will subconsciously wrest control of the Infiltrators from the originally intended leader? Well, she will) should help to balance the cliché out. If not, uh. Yay for me in general? Probably heterosexual. Codename undecided.

One of the less-main main characters is a younger asexual Asian cis-woman who can generate and control electricity. East Asian or Filipino, mid-twenties. Carries piano wire. Personality and past inspired by a friend of mine :P Codename: Short Circuit? Blackout? I'm pretty sure Livewire is taken, or I probably would've used it :|

I want there to be at least one token guy who practically embodies privilege, and he's not gonna be very aware of it at first, either. White, straight, monogamous, TAB, neurotypical cis-man (etc?). I'm thinking of calling him Lolsob McWhiteypants :Db Hopefully he will learn and grow as the series progresses, and we will all come to hate him less, but in the mean time, he is the target of all rage ♥ (Codename: Kyriarchy?) Very generic powers, if any. Is actually generally less talented than the less privileged Infiltrators. Was probably originally put on the team to try and "balance things out" or provide a "good perspective in times of trouble" or some other bullshit (probably even intended as the leader), but quickly gets in over his head and ends up eating foot a lot.

There should also be a fat cis-woman as the medic, whose powers are Totally Badass (and probably related to the medic thing), but she mostly keeps them under wraps. Deadpan snark, I'm thinking, and definitely a central-ish character. I really don't know much else about her yet, though :(

Another main-ish character is going to be a schizophrenic trans*/genderqueer person (which is undecided on all fronts) of Middle-Eastern descent. Ze can slip through solid objects by (partially?) transporting to another dimension where hir flesh is more 'solid' than it is; ze can limit this to one part of hir body at a time, or 'cover' hir whole body at once plus outside objects. One of hir problems is that hir schizophrenia becomes more intense when ze uses hir powers (moreso with larger masses/longer times), which makes hir reluctant to use it, particularly for projects that require hir to take more mass/time. Codename undecided.

Plot-wise, I don't have a lot thought out yet, but as early as half-way through, the question of whether the original Infiltrators will be able to take/get/keep credit for their work will come up. The Infiltrators will then begin working on plans for how to do this, while continuing their original objective.

They'll also discover more and more about the original team that brought VG down - particularly that their makeup WRT: marginalized groups is very similar to the modern Infiltrators'. While there is much less of a question of the world giving the original team credit for their work, the Infiltrators are very unsure that all the details of who they were will be made public. They begin to plan to ensure the makeup of the original team will be made public as well.

Edits: [8-27-09] Added cis tags to those I am fairly sure will not be trans*/genderqueer. [10-26-10] Did a lot of cleaning up, added another potential character, unlocked the post.

...And that's really all I've got for the moment. But the brain, she's a-buzzin' :3b Argh, the research invollllved ;_; AT LEAST I WILL LEARN STUFF?
