Ah, I just had the best weekend ^___^

On Friday, I dropped by [livejournal.com profile] tiralmo's house to watch Naruto :D We got through episode 26, and then I went home. I was practically floating on air for the duration of the Wave Country arc--excepting the end of the bridge battle; that made me choke up ;_; It always does. What am I saying always, I haven't seen the anime before. I mean, the manga made me choke up at that part, and reading fic about it made me choke up, and thinking about it made me choke up, and seeing it animated made me choke up. (While I am talking about this, I must point those of you who are okay with Zabuza/Haku as a pairing in the direction of a fic. It's by [livejournal.com profile] harukami and it's right here, and it's called Unnecessary Things, but no one really calls it that; instead, we all call it the Parfait-AU, despite a tragically small amount of actual parfait ^_~ It's Zabuza and Haku if there weren't ninjas ♥ and it's really good. Man, if I were a parfait? Reading it would melt me every time *_* Once you're done with that, hop over to parts one and two of the DVD-style author's commentary she did. It has a lot of really interesting observations on Naruto (the series) and Zabuza and Haku as characters. Plus, yanno, occasionally snarky comments. It's really insightful, and even if you don't like the pairing, I urge you to go read the introduction in part one. So go. Read. I'll still be here when you're done.)

Anyway, had lots of fun watching Naruto ^_^ even though [livejournal.com profile] nekokenchan had to duck out early ;_; and no one else came T-T [livejournal.com profile] tiralmo commented in the Wave arc how Inari's hat was analagous of his depression ^_^ and the comparison really worked, too, until he picked it up again when he went to rustle up the neighbors and fight back. It would've fit really nicely in with the rest of it (bridge = hope, Naruto = courage, can'trememberanymore, etc) if it weren't for that. And then I got to thinking about how Inari's 'Dad' was always saying 'I'll protect this town with these two arms' and how Inari might have taken it the wrong way ^^;

Socchan: ...What if Inari took that literaly, and then went grave-robbing after his 'dad' died so he could protect the town with his dad's actual two arms?
[livejournal.com profile] tiralmo: ....XO That's awful!
[livejournal.com profile] tiralmo: ....Why am I laughing? XD
Socchan: XD Becuase that's how it works in fandoms

[livejournal.com profile] tiralmo also asked about the kitsune myth that started that... thing... ^^; eh heh? Um, you can find some general info on kitsune here, and if you scroll down, the long paragraph right before 'kitsune in fiction' is the myth I was talking about. (Sadly, a different site I would've directed you to for more info on kitsune and Japanese folklore has been taken down ;_; I really liked that one, too.)

A couple of observations:
* Comparing Naruto's actions to those of kitsune in classic folklore, I don't really find it surprising at all that the villagers thought he was the kyuubi. I mean, essentially all his actions are classic kitsune behavior--playing tricks, not getting along well with humans, transforming into aluring young females to seduce men, pretty much you name it, it's there. The connection was pretty easy to make, and his personality didn't really do anything to make anyone think otherwise.
* Naruto's actually a pretty decent ninja. He just sucks at doing classroom stuff. I mean, look at some of the things he did to pull of his pranks--do those not require good ninja skills? Okay, so he sucks at classic clones, too ^^; but he's still not that bad a ninja.

Disagree if you like, but that's what I think. *goes into stubborn-mode*

When I got home, I found out that I had family in town ^____^ Aunt, Uncle and Cousin from Erie, PA :D Had loads of fun.

On Saturday, the out-of-town family wanted to spoil me as a graduation present ^_^ ♥ so we went out to lunch at an Asian restaurant that served bentos :D Next door was an Asian grocery store, and I stocked up on Pocky and other tasty treats ^_^ Yum! I'll try and save some for the next anime viewing. It shouldn't be too difficult.

They also gave me a sumi-e board; it's like those magnetic drawing boards, but for grown-ups ^.^ You take a brush (provided with) and paint water on the 'paper' provided, and it looks just like ink. After a few minutes, it dries and there's empty space to paint in again ^_^ It came with a card that has about seventy-five kanji on it (give or take), and it looks like it will be great for practice ^_^

When I got back home, I found out that Lililicious had Chapter Nine of Marimite ready for download ^___^ ♥

Today we went out for breakfast at Village Inn. I had a large meal and left satisfied. Then we went for a walk in City Park by the river. It appears to no longer be Crazy Duck season, though you may still see lingering traces of it; right now it's Baby Duck season.

Went to church. Priest I'm not too fond of gave the sermon -_- Still can't complain, as I am the only one who seems to have any problem with him. And really, it's not much of a problem at that--I appreciate the jokes and stuff--nor do I really know why I even have a problem with him (though I admit to a partial hunch). Anyway, I felt his sermon today had a couple of jerky transitions ^^; so maybe that's (another) part of why I don't like him so much.

Afterwards went home and surfed the net like no-one's business. Also got some work done on East Wind ^^v (I should really be working on Communications, though -_-a) Found some nice images to iconize, and found out that Lililicious had another chapter of Marimite ready to read ^___^ ♥♥♥ (that's two in the past two days :D), spent too much time reading fic/CFUD. Relatives went home a short while ago--well, except for Kieth, my cousin; he's staying in town for this workshop thing, which is why they came in the first place.

Also, Mom's been lending me her wrist brace, so my hand doesn't hurt as much ^_^ Thank you, Mom! I'm going to get my own pretty soon.

All in all, it was a pretty good weekend. I just hope I didn't do something stupid, like cash in on my Karma account before I really needed it ^^;

Aipe! Five links to my LJ! *hides*

Mm, Naruto is kitsune-y indeed. Looking over the site you linked I'm taking a few more quotes which Naruto applies to:
"...the ability to create illusions so elaborate as to be almost indistinguishable from reality"
"The trickster kitsune employ their magical powers to play tricks on people; those portrayed in a favorable light tend to choose as targets overly-proud samurai"
Only two more which fit Naruto well, but meh. The site was interesting nonetheless, though I do wish I could see that dead one. Maybe it's on the Wayback Machine: can I have it's URL to see?

Also, I figured out a way around the hat=depression thing. It's the town's depression. Inari is still wearing it while trying to get the town to fight (and failing), but when the town is ready to fight he switched to his kitchen pan helmet. Also, the bridge is the town's hope and Tazuna (not Naruto, Tazuna was the one called this:) is the town's courage.
