Fic: Untitled Crack Pairing thing 1/1
Dec. 20th, 2004 08:18 pmFandom: Detective Conan/Magic Kaito
Summary: Sherlock Holmes convention. Hopefully a surprise pairing. Also, implied sex.
Quick Notes: Okay, I'm still not entirely satisifed with this, but it's about as good as my mental block is letting me get it. See, for some reason I have this issue with re-writing already written fics, especially if there isn't a very big change involved. (Typing it up doesn't count.) That said, I'm in the mood to be ornery today, and deciding to post this is what's come of it.
Kinda rough yet.
Saguru first met him at a Sherlock Holmes convention in Hokkaido.
Saguru hadn't been in the country for very long; only long enough to establish a bit of a reputation and start an investigation on the Kaitou Kid. He would probably be leaving again soon anyway; Japan was a nice enough place, but he missed England.
The convention had presented him with a welcome distraction. Saguru got permission to go almost as soon as he asked for it, and looked forward to a long weeked packed with anything and everything related to Sherlock Holmes. He was also looking forward to spending time thinking about something other than insane thieves, magician's sons, inspector's daughters, and fiery sorceresses.
He had been right--it was nice to get away from it all, to take a break and meet new people. Saguru spent the first afternoon simply relating to other Holmes fans. He met dozens of new people, traded names and favorite stories and other information. It was a convention all over, and Saguru began to feel truly comfortable for the first time since he'd come to Japan. He was surrounded by people with similar interests, people he knew he had at least one thing in common with.
Saguru met him that day in the Con Suite when he stopped for dinner. Pleasantries were exchanged, and while Saguru had heard of the other boy, and he of Saguru, there was nothing that made him really stick out in Saguru's mind. They both moved on before too long, and the meeting fell away from Saguru's mind, overwhelmed as he was by other stimuli. Saguru collapsed onto his hotel bed that night feeling exausted and satisfied.
Saturday was a day for activities and panels. Saguru was pleasantly surprised to find the boy he'd met the previous day at many of the same events he attended. He was delighted to discover that the other boy had much more than a passing interest in Holmes. By the third event they met in, Saguru began to detect a hint of challenge from the other boy. By the fifth, he sensed a grudging respect and admiration. By the seventh there was something new entirely, and Saguru was at some pains trying to identify it. His nerves jumped at other possibilites that occured to him--attraction, heat, interest--possibilites that weren't that unlikely; nor, he found himself admitting, were they unreciprocated. At some point a spark had bit lit between them.
So it was that Saguru wasn't very surprised when he found himself following the other boy into his room that night, fumbling at clothing and tangling mouths together almost as soon as the door had closed. Not surprised, but anxious. It felt good, very good, but...
"Look," Saguru said, pulling back regretfully and lowering his gaze. "I'm not... I mean, I already have someone that I..."
He was cut off with a fierce kiss, but that was okay because he couldn't think of a way to finish the sentence anyway. After a few seconds, the other boy pulled back as well, dragging Saguru's lower lip with him part of the way. "It's all right," he said, "Really. I do, too. But she doesn't know yet. And I do like you, and it's just for tonight anyway, so if you don't mind..."
This time, Saguru cut him off, lips and tongue twining together. "I don't mind," he said at last, when they paused to breathe, then kissed the other boy again.
It reminded him of a wildfire: hot and unpredictable, insatiable tongues dancing over flesh and consuming fuel, powerful and draining. There was something else, too; something he remembered about a people who would burn fields so the growth would return stronger, and how the pheonix was consumed by its own flames once every five hundered years to be reborn from its ashes. It was clensing, renewing.
He was lost in the fire.
Saguru was sore when he woke up on Sunday, but he wasn't the only one. Light exersize took most of the edge off of it. They spent time together that day, appreciating one another's company, but made no plans or promises to meet again sometime. They spent time apart, too, and Saguru fit in a few more panels and a trip to a book auction before closing ceremonies, when they went their seperate ways--he to Ekoda, and the other to Beika.
It was a long time after that before he saw Kudo Shin'ichi again.

*duck-and-covers* Don'tkillme! >_<
General Notes: I live in what was once the great plains. I've heard many a history lecture about how the Native Americans would mimic natural fires and burn the prairie to attract buffalo to the new growth that would result. (Prairie plants developed these amazingly deep roots to deal with the heat of the fires occasionally caused by lightning, so they mostly aren't hurt by fires.)
Occured to me on the way back from Anime Iowa (early in the afternoon on September 19th, for the record) that Hakuba and Shin'ichi could bond over their love of Sherlock Holmes. (Note to self: never give brain a challenge -_-...) Apperantly, I was not the only one who thought so, as Icka got to posting the idea first in that bit of PYP shortly thereafter. (As in, the very next day.) (Me at the time: "Ohshit, sodead. *sigh*" Me now: "I'll just explain things, and everything will be okay." (See, Ysabet? That wasn't the first time that psychic plot-device theft has occured.)) Anyway, if you want to say that it was Icka's idea first and I got it from her, fine by me. I just wanted to make it clear that I didn't steal it, and that yes, I was/am aware of its existence prior to this post.
Am kinda nervy about posting this fic. This is literally the closest I've ever gotten to writing smut. Again, mostly because, as mentioned here, I don't know what I'm talking about. (Well, aside from reading too much smut, and that doesn't necessarily qualify one to write any.) It goes farther than that. Dear reader, I have never had a real date. I have never kissed anyone. I've never really done anything other than kinda maybe fall for someone. Therefore, writing anything of the sort makes me rather nervous/embarassed ^^;. I think it's also because I need to be more confident that what I write is okay, romance wise. Ish. Thing. *floundering for words* Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you thought it was good, encourage me; if you didn't, tell me what the hell I did wrong, and tell me not to give up (or, if you're feeling particularly nasty, tell me to throw in the towel and join a convent).
Okay, 'm done now.

Date: 2004-12-21 06:19 am (UTC)When I first saw the teaser at the front, I pretty much had the pairing figured out. ~_^ (Holmes) People seem to like to put Shin'ichi and Hakuba together for short things while Hakuba's not chasing Kaito. (Becky wrote one, swore she'd never write anything like that again)
... That scene for PYP was actually written pretty much 6 months beforew we posted it too. Most of the story is actually written, we just need to fill in the rest of the scenes in. PYP 3 is the killer.
*laughs* No worries on the smut front. ^_________^ Shades of Grey prolly will never have a smut scene at all, primarily because I'm still a virgin and I won't write what I really have no clue about. ^^;;
But ya did good. *wiggles happily* Real good. <3 Thank you.

Date: 2004-12-21 07:36 am (UTC)Some times less is more and the story is very good and suggestive without showing more. I like how it ended and that they did bond over Holmes. As a Holmes fan myself I find him a good icebreaker or bonding agent/
I also have to agree with you about rewriting, ugh but I count retyping it as a rewrite cause I notice things change when I type it in.
Keep up the good work..have become big MK fan and there by a Hakuba fan as well and well blame Ysaber for DC.

Date: 2004-12-21 02:48 pm (UTC)Gee, That must have made Conan feel akward and Sunset Manor and this is random bt=ut does anyone else wonder where the heck Hakuba was during the Holmes-otaku murder case?

Date: 2004-12-21 04:48 pm (UTC)I know about this much about Holmes ^^; *holds fingers about an inch apart to demonstrate* Detective Conan is a marvelous teaching tool, though ^_~
I count typing things up as a second draft, and re-writing as a whole different animal. Typing is mostly for smothing over rough edges. Re-writing is for when there's a bigger problem (and it usually involves a bit too much copy work for my taste -_-...)
*salutes* Will do!

I know what you're getting for New Years! *begins plotting*
Re: Woot!
Date: 2004-12-21 05:13 pm (UTC)No, brain, we are not to interpret that as a challenge -_-...
...I have a whole list of DC/MK crack pairing ideas begging to be written >_<.
I actually wrote them down so I wouldn't forget any.*nods* Completely understand where you're coming from with the SoG no-smut thing. (And good luck with PYP ^^v) I actually blush when I write romance scenes ^^;
Anyway, glad you liked it ^_^.

Was also hoping for Hakuba to make an appearance in the 8th movie, when Megure said that he brought in an expert on Kid. ~_~ Alas, not to be.
