Aug. 27th, 2005 06:54 pmLadies and gentlemen (though, let's face it, mostly ladies), I have discovered my greatest weakness, and it is this:
Discount anime and manga.
I'm serious! We went to K-mart yesterday and I got two DVDs simply because they were only five bucks! (Robotech volume 9 and City Hunter: .357 Magnum for the curious. Goddamn but the Robotech fans are lucky; they get six episodes per DVD D: Only other time I've seen that happen so far is with Furuba, and that's if you avoid the stupid 'box set' deal they have at Waldenbooks (with, what, book six of Furuba and the first two episodes on DVD? I mean, come on people, have a little integrity, wouldja? You can buy the first six episodes on one DVD for the same price, I'm sure, and getting the book in addition isn't that much more money). Will get around to watching them eventually, I'm sure.
Then today Dad, Grandma and I went downtown to Northside Book Market (secondhand bookstore) to pick up some books on tape for Grandma, and there were fourteen graphic novels for five bucks each. Not quite as much of a deal, mind, but I snatched 'em up anyway ^^; Store owner let us off ten bucks and Dad cut off another ten, but he still wants fifty bucks of work outta me. I'm not really complaining, though I was beginning to think I shoulda put back about six of 'em I didn't want as much about halfway through bargaining. Another list for the curious: Digimon book one, Digimon Zero Two one and two, Rave Master one, Yu-Gi-Oh one and two (all of which I would've been willing to put back), Yu Yu Hakusho one through four, Naruto one and two, and Shaman King one and two (all of which I would've been much less willing to put back).
It's proven. I am totally weak to cheap anime and manga. Even if it's not that much cheaper than the original, I'm weak to it. It's like... Tomoyo and costuming Sakura. Or Sado (Chad) and cute things. Or my brother and video games. I'm just unable to resist any of it.
