Ford's Vetinary Adventure
Jan. 22nd, 2007 02:40 pmHad to take Ford to the vet's this Saturday. He was having trouble breathing, to the point where he had to open his mouth to do so and made little clicking noises. Vet said he probably had a respitory infection (relatively common with rats), and that they could help. Thanked all my lucky stars. Ford was put into an oxygen tank for the night. He was better when Mom and I visited him yesterday afternoon, but worse when we tried to pick him up that night, so we ended up leaving him again. Got up at 7:15 this morning (which is about four hours earlier than usual for me, I'm sad to admit ^^a) to pick Ford up at the vet's, as we'd already racked up a hefty bill and didn't want to add another $120 to it. This took some stress, as I only found out after Mom left that she still had her keys. Thankfully, I managed to find mine on time, and drove down to the office to get Ford. Doubly thankfully, he was doing much better, and made it home safe and sound. Last I saw, he was still getting along well, with no sign of the "cough" returning. Also had to give him some anti-biotics (definitely not missing a dose, as I know what that can do to bacteria in the long run), which was quite a challenge. Poor dear, I don't blame him a bit for not wanting to take it; it smelled awful.
Anyway, Ford is back home and doing well, and will probably have to spend at least a week, if not two, in quarantine. Also, my hands now smell thoroughly of rat. Hopefully, he'll be able to stave off further infections for some time. *knock on wood*
