soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (Just rotting away here)
So last night I was up late reading fanfics, when I started thinking about Communications. And I have the next bit done, and want to get to work on the following bit, but I'm having some issues deciding what to do with a certain plot element, especially as I'm hoping to wrap the story up in another four chapters or so. There's one element at least that I'd love to be able to go into more depth with, but I don't have enough plot/backstory to do so, so I'll probably end up glossing over it instead. Anyway, I was thinking on this sort of thing, when the following occurred to me...

Me: ...I treat my characters too well.
Brain: That's not true! ...Okay, yes it is, we do.
Brain: But that's no reason you shouldn't be writing the fic where Kaito decides to dress up as a girl to buy cheap Valentine's Day chocolate and then Akako and Aoko run into him at the store, and then totally drag him into a janitor's closet or something and molest the living daylights out of him.
Me: Wait, what? Since when was I supposed to be writing that?
Brain: Just now.
Me: ...Right. I'll think about it.
Brain: It'd be the best Cheap Candy Day fic ever, and you know it!

Different subject! I seem to have stumbled across the origin of the word "hijinks" (originally "high jinks") in The Dictionary of Clichés (by James Rogers):

High Jinks. Frolic; revelry. "High jinks" was the name for what people sometimes did at drinking parties in the 17th and 18th century: a throw of the dice determined who should do a stunt for the group or chugalug a goodly quantity of liquor. Sir Walter Scott explained at some length in Guy Mannering:

"On the present occasion...the frolicsome company had begun to practise the ancient and now forgotten pastime of High Jinks. The game was played in several different ways. Most frequently the dice were thrown by the company, and those upon whom the lot fell were obliged to assume and maintain for a time a certain ficticious character, or to repeat a certain number of fescennine [scurrilous] verses in a particular order. If they departed from the character assigned, or if their memory proved treacherous in the repetition, they incurred forfeits..."

Is it wrong that I now really want to play (sans drinking) and/or subject a fictional character or three to this? The "obvious" solution would be CFUD, but uh... Yeah, idled out there, so.
